Stiff Throttle - lube the cable or replace it ?

    Hi Guys

Port side throttle is very stiff ... I'm assuming its the cable.

I have tried the friction adjuster ... no dice !

Can you lube these cables .. or are they a replacement ? If they can be lubricated ... instructions would be appreciated. Also, tips on replacing it are also appreciated.

Boat is a Kevlacat 5.2 ... 2 x Yamaha 60 HT four strokes, forward control unit is a Yamaha 704.

    Thanks

Agree, we tried for while to lube with ATM fluid and so on....gave up...got new ones..why did we wast our time, and so much more a pleasure to drive again...

Replace it its a serious safety issue.
Normal problem is that the outer casing cracks and salt water rusts the wires inside the casing and they swell and bind on the inner,
I assume that you have checked that there are no sharp bends or anything crushing the cable.

first step is to disconnect it from the motor and try it again just to make sure it is the cable - which it most likely is - then replace, making sure any adjustments are spot on.

Good advice above. It could be the steering RAM that is sticking- just eliminate that possibility first.
Steering cables aren't that expensive and when you have spent a few hundred in fuel and bait and get her off the trailer at 4 in the morning all set for a big days fishing with your mates, the last thing you want is to have to put it back on the trailer and head for home with no steering.

hi steve, common problem on port side motors, they are longer and have more bends. make sure when you do replace it you use premium cables. they are more expensive but will last longer.

Haha- was wondering what you were going on about- then realised it is a throttle cable.

So I suppose the outcome would be the same and my advice would be the same bar the steering RAM check.

    Replace- it is cheap.
