Boat Heights

Hi all. I'm going to build a shed at my place and want to make plans to accommodate the future boat. Boat will be a 7-8m plate depending on finances. Need to know what height doors are required.

Probably about ft, if you fold down the vhf aerial.

Hi Mull Dog,
3.6 to 4 meters high x 3 to 6 meters wide x 9 to 10 meters deep if you have the room
Height dependent on what you have on the cabin roof & if hardtop or not.
Width of 3 meters if you can reverse straight in or 6 meters wide if you have to reverse in from side on at 90 degrees to the door.
Depth needs to include engine & drawbar length.
My 8meter plate is just under 10 meters in length including engines & drawbar.

Agree with that height. Mine is 3.5m with the aerials down. That is the height of the rocket launcher on top of the cuddy.

My 7.5m platey lived in a "car port" that had a door 3.6m high. It was 10m long and only had about 500mm to spare with the leg up.

Doing the same thing. For me 3.6m x 3.6m is the minimum I would want. So if I could go 4x4 i would. As for the front entry.

Likewise I am building a shed at the moment for my boat, a Kevlacat 2400. The shed will be 10 metres wide and 9.5 metres deep. the roller door for the boat will be 5 metres wide and have a clearance height of 3.8 metres, 4.4 metres to the eaves... Hope that helps Mull Dog.

To be fair, there is no 'standard" boats and trailers vary considerably, lots of things come into play, including slope of the land, lots of stuff needs to be considered.

Short answer is as high as possible. Whatever you install you'll end up wishing it was 100mm higher.

There is a huge variation in height of boats on their trailers.

Assuming you're talking about monohulls what sort of boat do you have in mind? Are you thinking Kiwi style (including barcrusher) with a low sole and a sump pump or an Aussie style self draining deck? This decision alone could effect the overall height by as much as 200-250mm.

Then look at deadrise. Going from 16-20 degrees deadrise will change the height of the keel by about 100. As most modern trailers use the gap between the mud guard and chine to set height then this is very important.

Was thinking the guys with riptides amm origin rebels etc with boats in that size 7-8m with radar up top. Was hoping to get away with door height of 4m
