Where your red line ends there is an almost right angle bend to the south east this is where the turning mark is the bend you have in your line is where the bar starts if you have a look on your plotter it should have a suggested route it will show you.

    Re: Wide Bay Bar

Gday Tony,These are a combination of the VMR marks and my track from last time.25.48.098/153.04.786 25.47.365/153.06.629 25.47.672/153.08.378.
Use these as a guide of corse.I have for years and haven't gone wrong.
I have crossed it millions of times at day and at night(one night on a dead low with 2m+easterly swell and that was hectic)
As a rule I do not go out unless the swell is under 1.5mtrs,2m and above of easterly on a run out is asking for trouble.
Its the outer bank that stands up out of know where on days like that.
As you are making your way out you will have a bank breaking to your right, stay clear of that.
As you are coming in from the last mark on my list(coming home) you will see a white lead on the bottom end of fraser lite blue, then head to the next mark and then a white lead with a blue light
on the inskip beach will appear, you then just head for that.
Use the marks and look out for what I have just mentioned.
    Anything else mate just ask.
Its better to leave from Tincan as it is another 30min to Rainbow towing the boat but only 5min from Tin Can ramp to Carlo leads.
    Mick.

    Tony,

in your boat if the swell is low I'd be going Fisherman's gutter a fair bit of the time. It can be like 400m and you are through whereas the main bar is a couple of mile. Every day is a bit different on the gutter. You just have to pick where the break is less and wing it rather than rely on marks. You'd kill it having experience on Noosa. You'd have the speed to fang it when you have a little run then back off and jump over a couple of little ones head on and you'd be through in a flash.

Smithy, so there are 2 options?? 400m or a couple of mile?? Maybe as I'm not real smart I'm reading this wrong.LOL

    Thanks mate

    Re: Wide Bay Bar

Yes there are two ways the short way is called fishermens gutter it gets very shallow as the tide drops there can be waves and swell from a few directions if the weather is good it is a good option. But I have been told that most of the time that people come unstuck on the wide bay bar were trying to go through the gutter not sure how true that is. You just need to have a good look before you go. I will send you the marks these are only a guide.

    Thanks Shaun.

Can anyone verify the gutters being the main problem zone??

    Re: Wide Bay Bar

These are the marks for the gutter it moves around a bit I pretty much followed these marks through it about a month ago.
    Fishermans gutter 25.49.197 153.04.835
    Fishermans gutter 25.48.547 153.04.480
    Fishermans gutter 25.48.809 153.04.608

    Re: Wide Bay Bar

Personally I don't like the gutter,I crossed it a month ago with Greg(sharky) and it was mint.
But I fish N/E of the bar so it's pointless as you have to follow that sand bar which would now be on your left all the way out anyway.
It does eliminate the outer bank but as I said I don't go out on big easterly swells anyway which cause the outer bank to stand up.
It's funny Tony,I wouldn't cross Noosa with my big tub but go out of Wide Bay all day long.
