    4.5 Ton trailer safety chains

I am after some ideas of what people have/are using for the safety chains and attachments for a trailer rated for 4.5 ton.

GR80 13mm rated to 5.3t and use 13mm hammerlocks to secure...........any lifting gear place will have it.

I was thinking of using hammer locks and then shackles to attach to the vehicle. I need to have 2 chains and I think they both need to be able to take the load each. The chain can't be welded and rated for the said load. When you size up a 4.5 ton shackle it would certainly never fit through the chain. I may be reading the regulations wrong.

The catch in the regulations/recommendations is the difference between "safe working load" and "breaking Strain" as I read it in relation to D shackles. I think the general rule for rated lifting shackles is the breaking strain is 6 times the SWL so 2 tonne SWL shackles should be heaps - but have another read - don't take my word for it.

I use 13mm hammer locks & 3.2tonne D shackles...that is as big as I can fit in chain.
