    New shed

    Hi all.

Getting some prices on a new shed for my place (Northside bris).
iv been to see see most of the big names. Titan, tuff built, southern cross.
Are the sheds themselves somewhat all the same?
anyone have any good or bad feed back, anything j should look out for.

Shed will be around 12mx 9m. 3.6 high.
prices have been similar. One brand a bit sharper than the others, but I would like some honest feed back first.

    Thanks
    Rob

    Re: New shed

I had a new shed 11 m x 7 m x 5.5 m put in about a year ago. Not the sort of thing you do very often, so difficult to compare companies. I was happy with the price, service and build quality of what I got. I used a place called The Shed Company based on Southside Brisbane. I have since found out that you can save a few $$$ by finding a experienced shed builder and then just buying the shed kit from whoever you choose.

    Re: New shed

Mate the big builders will give you shed price then overload it with hidden costs which will be three times the price they pay. eg Certification, council, erection
It took me six months to sort out the bloody mess one large company stuck me with.
Eventually I had to go to A current Affair to get the shed company to sort it out.
If I ever built another one I would go to a private shed builder.
Someone has to pay for the tv ads of the big companies and that someone is YOU.

    Re: New shed

    I purchased a 14 x 8 x 3.6 Titan a few years ago, as a kit including the slab etc....
All the subbies were great, but the Titan company & the kit were very dissapointing. They tried to change the door widths even after the slab was poured and we had several parts missing from the kit.

The also own ARD(Australian Roller Doors), conveniently included in the package. I have had no end of trouble with these, particularly when automated.

    I wouldn't buy another Titan.

    Re: New shed

I used Total Span for my kit and the council application - good service and good instructions. Layed the slab myself (note to self - never take up concreting as an occupation), and put the thing up myself. At the size you are talking it's a pretty big undertaking (mine was only 9x5x2.7). I have had two mates use Titan - one installed himself and said the instructions were absolute shite. The other had the whole job done and IMO got absolutely reamed on price to the point I asked him if it came with a jar of Vaseline. They knew he was in a spot with council requirements and took full advantage of the situation and from reports their contractors did a pretty average job.

There are differences in the construction/layout of the portal frames. Things like horizontal braces across the portals at the top of the wall height that may be in the way if you wish to utilise the extra height in the roof area, differences in the way the purlins and girts attach to the portals that take up a bit of extra space and the way the shed attaches to the slab - some have brackets concreted in and some are bolted down are just a few examples.

    Re: New shed

Hey mate, we do quite a few rural builds on the sunny coast, I've got no affiliation with any shed manufacture, at the end of the day there is not a whole lot of difference between prefabricated products at the general person can't see. I would recommend southern cross sheds as far as quality of the kit. The perlins and portal frames are larger section and there standard bracing for the same wind rating is substantially better than most. As far as the slabs go Titan sheds have the neatest concreters I've ever seen. Make sure you ask for a 32mpa concrete to be used as this will help reduce cracking of the slab. Also ask the sales person how the contractors cut there sheets as grinding them will damage the sheets and will bring on corrosion quicker. Hope this helps
    cheers
    Nick

    Re: New shed

had this put up earlier this year
    15x 9 x 3.2 at gutters and 4.5 or so at peak

a 3.5 peak isnt enough and iwll get condensation dripping off it in winter

    Re: New shed

I would steer clear of the few big ones that advertise on TV looked at their sheds and was not happy particularly with their own doors as said above. My current shed for the boat (8mL x 4mW x 3mH at the gutters) I had done with a company called Brisbane Sheds and Garages at Capalaba all good quality products used and the erector was a pro. Pic Attached.
Prior to that I was on a large block and had (12M x 7.5m) and used a company called Oz-Cover also very well built nothing was too much trouble during both jobs I would recommend both of these shed company's. Oh both sheds I did nothing other than write the cheque.
