Who issues the fine? it`s a federal offence and is enforced by the ACMA, who only work 9-5 mon to fri less public holidays, and only have field offices in some state capitals, unless your making a nuisance of yourself on the emergency channels you have nothing to worry about, and if in a remote chance you are caught, I think the fine may exceed $200Originally Posted by bazza65

Although it is highly unlikely that you will be asked for your license, one thing that was pointed out to me by the gentleman running the VHF course when I got mine was that a VHF with DSC needs an MMSI number (basically a phone number for your VHF so you can be identified) for the function to work properly.
To get an MMSI number, you have to register your radio with ACMA who ask for a copy of your license when you apply for it.

Hi Bazza65, Did you pay 2 lots of fees and still fail the course, with no licence ??. It seems pretty ridiculous if they are making the exam that hard that people will fail, it means you can hold car & boat licences and not be deemed suitable to hold a VHF licence. Also the new AWQ licence is only valid up to 12 Nautical miles from the shore. My 27 meg Radio went on the blink today, & i am facing the dilemma of which way to go.
No mate I only paid the $59 up front . I can kiss that goodbye. I was talking to various enforcement agencies and they told me they wish every boat had a radio licenced or not.
I will be getting a vhf soon.
