    Cheap(ish) 10" GPS

So guys I wanted a good sized GPS for my tinnie but didn't want to spend a fortune and most decent ones this size are $1,200 and above.

I already had a wifi only (so no 3G) ipad 2 and did a bit of reading online about the Garmin Glo.

Essentially the Glo receives GPS from most satellites including Russian ones and is accurate within three metres anywhere on earth.

The Glo connects to the wifi ipad via Bluetooth and it stays connected within about five metres around the boat and after you have the maps saved locally on you ipad you do not need the Internet.

I then spent $69 downloading the navionics Australia/NZ marine maps and took it all for a spin in Moreton Bay on the weekend.

I have to say it is accurate as hell, and worked like a champ.

So if you have an iPad sitting around get yourself a Garmin Glo (I paid $119 at Johnny Appleseed but you can get the slightly cheaper online) and you have yourself a cheap but huge onboard GPS.

PS I am also heading to Europe in September and will use the combination as a road navigator by downloading maps of London etc.

Anyway, just putting the idea out there.

I'd say the built in GPS chip would be a lot slower to update and maybe not as accurate.

i have been using a ipad2 64g 3g/wifi with navionics for years and have a RAM mount for it on the flybridge and it`s awesome, I also have a 5" lowrance chartplotter with navionics sitting next to it , I have a USB power socket outlet on the flybridge to power the ipad , and it connects to the boats 4g wifi router, it sure is the way to go, I`m thinking of getting a ipad air and one of these mounts http://www.gumdropcases.com/collecti...-industry.html

When they make sonarphone compatible with ipad you can wifi a fishfinder transducer to it.
The software demo runs great on an android tablet.
