Operta House Nets.
Just reading through the regs. on Opera nets and as I understand it the entry holes
may be from 25-100 mm. in diameter.
Is this correct or has it all changed recently.
The existing entry holes in my nets are 90mm dia.
Also I can't see any reference to metal rings to hold the entries open.
I know the rings were required but is it still in the rules???

Re: Operta House Nets.
Not knowing if you want NSW or Qld but I see Qld its a ring size of 10cm ( 100mm)
in NSW
Entrance funnels: A bycatch reduction
device must be fitted to all entrance
funnels. The device must consist of a rigid
ring with a maximum internal diameter of
90mm permanently affixed to entry funnels
at some point along their length, so as to
restrict the entry funnels to a maximum
opening of 90mm measured in any
direction. This is to protect platypus, turtles
and birds from entering the trap in search
of food and getting caught in the trap.
■ Maximum number: Unless otherwise
specified, up to five traps may be set, used
or in your possession.
■ Maximum set time: Cannot be left set for
more than 24 hours.
QLD
funnel traps with a rigid opening size between 5 cm and 10 cm can only be used in listed impoundments east of a line following the Great Dividing Range ......

Re: Operta House Nets.
Hi Scalem, thanks for the reply.
My O.H. nets have 90 mm. rings fitted and I was under the impression that they were legal.
Some where recently I think I read that rings in Qld. at least, should be 100 mm.
Just haven't been able to verify that yet.
I won't be using mine for a while so I have plenty of time to sort it all out.

Re: Operta House Nets.
Been there and done it again G.F.
It seems that for the Western Waters and nominated Dams up to 100 mm. is ok.
The shrimp nets as I like to refer to them at not more than 25 mm. are ok anywhere.
I am a little surprised at the 100 mm. size for O.H. cray nets, not likely to deter many Water Rats or little Turtles.
Anyway my traps seem to be legal for now,
Thanks for the reply,

Re: Operta House Nets.
In Qld you just need to fit bigger rings then you can use them anywhere.........

Re: Operta House Nets.
Hi Feral, better have a look at the regs. no O.H. nets with an entry hole bigger than 25 mm. east of the dividing range or south of the Gore Highway.
Except in nominated dams as laid out in the regs.
Things have changed a lot in the last 12 months.
If I am wrong let me know.
