    Running transducer wiring myth ???

I'm currently wiring up my Tinnie all lights bilge pump etc, and a bloke from work told me I should run my dragonfly 7 transducer wiring in a seperate conduit line not with the other power/earth wires for my other assesories? Just wondering how true this is as I can't see a issue as the transducer body does all the work at the back of the boat

let us know what u think

    cheers Stuart

Re: Running transducer wiring myth ???

In my boat I have a side console and everything is run down the same side including my P66 transducer for my furuno ,it's been that way for 7 yrs and I always get trouble free results at all times . I think it's myth as the transducer cable on mine at least has earth shield built into the cable but what would I know someone here will trash that idea and make it more difficult than it needs to be . Try it if you get interference move it I guess . Matt

It is exceptionally rare to see electrical interference with sounders. It does happen but so infrequently that generally no one bothers running cables separately unless there is an issue or it is easier to run the cable up the opposite side of the boat to the rest of the wiring to start with.

If you are worried about electrical interference run your other accessories through a couple of torroids they are cheap as chips.
I pilot links can cause interference into your sounder and a torroid is the recommended cure.

I have a Quintrex 490 fishabout and have run both transducer wires up the side with all the other wires and stuff with no issues at all. Also put my structure scan transducer on the port side with no issues.

    Hope this helps

I'm a believer in physically separating data cables from other power cables but I doubt conduit would be much help.
Could mean the difference between being able to use a higher gain to a lesser amount in order to remove screen crap, having no issues may also mean you're not getting the most out of your sounder.
