When buying look at warranty, how many CC's the block is, and weight. You can't go wrong with Honda, just drop the engine oil and gear case oil more frequently if you want any marine 4 strokes to last, they do work hard.

It can be a flag, so why not a flavour?

I am not sure what the upgrade is for but if it is just for fuel economy then don't bother. I have a 2 stroke 25HP and my father has a 4 stroke 30HP and for a day's fishing the fuel is about the same. If you troll and want trim and tilt then go a 4 stroke. A good 2 stroke with the right prop goes very close in cruise economy to the 4 stroke in that horsepower range. Check out the old Trailerboat Magazine tests. I was very amazed.

Finally if I was going a new 4 stroke 30HP then it would be a Suzuki with the lean burn injection. The Honda is good but still carby.

    Hi all

I ended up going mercury 30Hp 4 Stroke. It is the only EFI engine that can be pulled started as well, big plus as i do a few trips were we are out camping for two to three weeks. Went with electric start and electric tilt.

    Cheers
