Thread: Which sounder are you using and are happy with (for offshore fishing only)?

Re: Which sounder are you using and are happy with (for offshore fishing only)?

I use a F587 with a 600 watt trany, if it dies I'll buy another one. Do your homework and learn how to use it properly. In deep water it's on manual mode all day.

    Running a Raymarine system with 2 x a series - one a75 and one a77. I also have a CP100 Chirp module.

The a77 has a P58 transudcer transom mount and the CHIRP transducer is also transom mount.

Find the CHIRP good out to 90m (deepest i have been) and I usually run both at the same time which provides a great amount of detail throughout the water column.

Shows up OK I reckon.
Did you take the photo with your mouth?

Furuno GP7000F with a 600 watt bronze low profile factory fitted by Seafarer. It was in the boat when purchased and there was no need to change it. Works as well as is required, good clear picture at all speeds with no gain adjustment required until there is a major change in depth. Has been used out to about 160 metres thus far.

Hey jsmfun just wanted to know what your 751xs performs like with the b75m trans ?? What depth are you fishing and fish species you are chasing ? I have the same unit but with a tm150 and I'm looking at the b75h and b75m but can't decide I'm on the west coast and fish depths to 60mtrs chasing demersals .

Currently running Simrad NSS12 with 4G radar and networked to Lowrance HDS7 gen2 touch and Furuno FCV585 with an Airmar M260 1kw as main sounder but about to upgrade soon. Going to go all Furuno as nothing compares for offshore and looking at the TZT2 not sure yet on 12 or 15 inch and either a FCV295 or an 1150 as well, a 1kw and a 2kw tranny, SC30 gps compass.
Have to glass in a fairing to house the trannies so was looking at that and a part of the deck I want to replace and thought I might as well replace the whole floor, that has now turned into a possible whole rebuild and extension of the hull

Anybody had problems with, initially, fogging up, and ultimately them dying from internal corrosion?
My Lowrances have done this. They are under a canopy too.
When my current one dies I'm going for one that says waterproof.

I'm running FCV 587 tm260 1kw tranny with separate plotter, only used it half a dozen times and probably need a lesson on what it's reading, the bottom lock feature is great and the seperation of fish and reef is clear as day. Saying that I had a lowrance hds 7 with a standard transducer, the better sounder hasn't improved my catch rate! At least when there was a show on the old unit in 100m you knew it was decent!

Re: Which sounder are you using and are happy with (for offshore fishing only)?

We fished with Lowrance until we got sick of replacing them. The last time was during the Rainbow Classic.
A mate had bought a 585 for his fathers boat but had not fitted it, so we did a quick change over and ran the 585 with a b256 1kw trany $ 2500
2 years later the furuno died /Later to be told internal corrosion saw the board and it was. All I had was a Bird 788 on the tiny so did a night swap went to same spot as the day before and I know there will be knockers the show / bottom colour was better. Those that chase Reds know about the colour. Only 500w but 5years later still running it happy as. Have 2 now and take the tinny one as a spare when going offshore.
