    Broke down, AGAIN..............

Planning day off DI targeting reds. Well, didn't exactly come to fruition. Fuelled up & mate in his 7m did the same. Launched together & we were about a km from the bar, when a warning alarm came on. I wish somewhere would display telling me what the damn alarm referred to!!
Assumed similar to 2 weeks ago when the starboard impeller gave way, which was now repaired.
Both motors had strong tell tale?? Turned sb motor off, & alarm stays on. Turned port off, & alarm dies.
    Start port, alarm again.
While doing this, Chris radios me telling me he has broken down?? Dump your anchor & wait your turn!!!
Slowly motor to Chris one one engine. He has a 225 Merc that just stopped & wouldn't start again??
Did a slow tow back to the ramp & got Chris loaded up & he went to see his mechanic & I got mine home.
Tell tale stopped when I did a start to help me get it up on the trailer.
Got it home & put the muffs on it & the port won't even start, shuddering & jumping, so I locked up the shed & am now consuming beer.
Gets worse though. As I was unloading & handing stuff to Juna, she says what is this?? My squid bait for the reds I say. Not any more, they are lunch!!
I asked for large squid, & the bloke brought 2 packets, cryovaced & frozen, & they were 18 inches long!!
Could have been worse. We could have been off DI like last time it happened!!

Strange symptoms Tony - first up check your water separators just in case you have got some dodgy fuel. Did you both fuel at the same servo?

    Sorry to hear Tony.

I suppose it could be a lot worse, your local Hino dealer could also be the local Honda dealer [emoji15] [emoji1][emoji1]

Don't you know how to kick a bloke when he's down. I and nearly choked on my pepsi. I had half considered something along the lines of if it was a mono with a single it would have been right with only one trip to the doctors or that Tony and his mate should have bought an E-Tec........but I'm out of popcorn. Oh well.

Chin up Tony - bloody things could have waited until you got out there - would have made for a far less desirable result.

Geeeezzzz Tony, sounds like you also need a new boat!!!!
These Hussar expeditions are really starting to be costly for you LOL

    Re: Broke down, AGAIN..............

Update guys. Chris's mechanic found dirty fuel. Chris told me it looked like water out of the river Thames. I thought he was exaggerating, but no, Scottar, it looked like your Pepsi mate!!
Drained separators, cleaned fuel line, primed more fuel through & he reckons Chris is good to go, so we are attempting the Banks tomorrow, with Chris sitting on the stern draining the fuel separator.
Chris went & joined Coastguard to be on the safe side, as you get one free tow per year. While there, asked the radio operator if there were any breakdowns today, & he said, funny you ask, as the crew is out dragging someone home now, & he told them he suspected dirty fuel!!
My guys here Monday, so I'll keep you updated.
I looked at it the same way Scottar, at least we were in the river.
A council worker had a good belly laugh watching me tow Chris to the ramp, & I told him don't look too hard you knob, as I'm on one engine!! LOL

    Tony

Is repeatedly watching your fuel separators enough to get rid of it all in time?? Chris has 320l on board & I've got 480.
Probably makes sense now why the port motor got slower & slower Easter Monday when I had the impeller issue.

Just keep an eye on it Tony and you will be fine as long as you keep draining the water out of the bowl.
Make sure you have a couple of spare filter elements on board though

    Re: Broke down, AGAIN..............

Tony, that is appalling. Fuel so full or crap that it clogged up engines on two boats!! Yikes!

I would definitely take at least a couple of spare filter elements with me if I was you, plus, I would be stopping after 15 minutes and draining a bit of fuel from the water separating filter ps into a glass jar and checking for water. I have seen fuel like that and as well as water, there is almost always a heap of crud in it that will clog up a filter element pretty badly too.

if no water after 15 minutes, give it another 15 minutes run and check again. You get the drift. Until you are sure there is no more water or crud in there.

A friendly visit to the proprietor of the petrol station with a jar of the evidence would be on my agenda, too.
Note to self: Don't argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience....

Thats pretty much the plan tomorrow. Chris is taking filters & will monitor closely.
We took the bottles to the servo & they were very good, but very concerned. They told us to email our mechanic bills & they will sort immediately.
Lets hope we get to Barwon Banks tomorrow.
Chris wants to hit them up for emotional distress, dirty unleaded 95 syndrome & a raft of other symptoms!! LOL

Drained the port fuel separator & this is the 1st drop. Ended up with about 250ml of this before clean fuel came through.
    Starboard was clear.

Tony, if you can lift the front of the boat up a bit, it could be worth taking the fuel line off the inlet side to the filter and pumping the bulb for a while to see what comes through. Might save a bit of grief on the water. Just a thought.

Good luck with Chris's "emotional distress" claim! Lol!!! I agree with the sentiment, though! If you had a towing bill you could definitely hit them up for that though.

What Moonlighter said and perhaps in future consider gravity filling the tank thru a tractor type water-catching diesel fuel filter funnel .

I am constantly amazed at what gets caught by a filter designed for diesel especially if you fill so the fuel spins around the centre fine filter rather than it is forced though it. Water and other muck that is caught can then be returned to the service station desk while you are still on the fore court by the pump!
