    Weipa GPS marks

    G'day folks,
Will be in Weipa mid May and looking for help with some GPS marks.
In particular the 3 mile and 9 mile reefs off Pera area.

    Cheers

As you can probably tell, I don't use these forums regularly, but I have in the past ... anyway, I could be wrong, but it doesn't seem quite right to me to be asking for GPS marks via an online forum!

Weipa is my home and I fish often. We see a plethora of tourists here every dry season. It sometimes takes all our patience dealing with some of them and their strange ways at the boat ramps, so I'm really not so sure I also want to share my fishing spots with them!

Anyway, spots up here aren't hard to find. I've had to find mine myself. Get a marine map on your GPS with contour lines. These lines are a good place to start looking with your sounder.

Sorry, but on a forum like this, that's the best I can do. If I bumped into you here and you came across as a good fella and hit me up in the flesh for some marks, I'd happily oblige with a couple to start you out. Oh, but that's not an invite to come visit me in Weipa. Too busy fishing and getting fish for my own mates who regularly visit from down south for that!

    Good luck! Have fun!

No problems about asking for GPS marks on a forum. Some will choose to pass along marks, and some wont.

Here are a couple of starter marks out off Pera Heads to get you started when you are up there. They are all good places to chase fish. We have caught mackerel, cobes, trevally and also plenty of reefies in these areas over many trips up there since 1998.

The first two spots are around the 3 mile area and the third is out wider and is known as Bones and is a gun mackerel area.

I have a pile of marks somewhere here at home that came from the gps system in the patrol boat that the boys in blue drive around. I will see if I can locate them and if I can, will send you a few by PM.

Have fun up there and hope you catch heaps.

    cheers

    Thanks very much Jeff.
If you are able to PM me more information it would be most appreciated.

We're a party of 3, flyfishing and light tackle spinning, catch and release mostly - the odd LT Tuna for sashimi.

Surftravel, I'm not sure I appreciate your comments quite as much, although I do know where you're coming from.
Those idiots who inconvenience you at the ramp in the dry season every year account for the livelihoods of many Weipa town folks with the money they spend.
Food and bev, tackle, rentals, accommodation etc. You should appreciate their contribution more.
