Looking at your pics the transom probably had a couple of more years of life left in it. Odes20 will keep you on track. I replaced my transom using the same procedure. 2/3's of mine was just compost, you could scrape it out with your fingers, and there were seeds geminating in it as well. Mine had timber and glass going all the way down on the inside, no void, a bit different to yours.

I can only see one drain hole in your transom right at the base of the void (that's your bilge). Does your bigle pump sit down that low inside your hull or is it in a higher cavity? My transom had 3 drain holes(one at the base of the Vee, the other two wider and higher), but from the inside the lowest you could place the bilge pump was at the level of the two higher holes. There was no way to pump water out of the lower bilge area. Not sure why it was designed like this, but after camping on a island for a week with a bit of rain about my lower bilge filled up with water and there was no way to get it out. Made the boat really heavy and sluggish. When I redid the transom, I also cut (through the floor) access into the lower bilge so I could get my pump into it. I can get all the water out now.

Goochi your lower bilge area used to be called flotation, not any more.

Fed, it had the potential to be flotation, but it wasn't flotation when it was filled with water!! Also it wasn't sealed, as in watertight or airtight, to stop water getting into it or air getting out of it. There were some significant flaws in the execution of the design.

No beilge pump so thats on list I will have to cut acess hole but rather have pump for peice of mind.
Im going to go for Johnson 800gph for now with a backup slightly higher up.

Neighbours got the sh#%s with me 'banging' from all the chisel action...lol just wait a few days for the power tools to kick volume up to 11!

As long as you are doing the noise between 7am and 5pm, he can't do anything about it. Go hard.

Just bought 2400x1200x12mm AA marine ply $78, structural CD was $50 for same size so why not spend a few extra dollars to get the good stuff.
Now just have to scrounge a large peice of carboard to make template.

Ask the big chain stores for a packing box from a display fridge. Normally if you secretly drive down behind the stores after dark the card monsters are hiding in plain site.

Think of it as recycling for a better cause.

12mm ply. Are you planning for a 2 layer sandwich or 3 layers? What is the original gap you have to fill?

Gaps is 25mm so 2 x 12 + a sheet or more of chop strand mat hopefully be right size.

I might go and visit a few garbage bin areas tonight...what better way to spend a friday night

    Today back into it.
Cut off top of taransom and gunnel section, I knew I would have to but didnt want to face cutting out more boat.
Cut out ply and had a trial fit.

I'm thinking my nest step once I am happy both sheets of ply will fit in easy enough with out being loose is to fix up holes...basicaly prep

Cut the inner fibreglass skin out and glass in a new one when refitting the transom. That way you can glass the inner face to the sides of the hull, the splash well and the floor
