    New motor honeymoon period

Just wondering whether the new four strokes have a "running in" period or are they right to go.... The motor is Suzuki 115 and plan to take for a run on weekend... Will obviously get dealer advice but interested in feedback from those who have recently fitted one.

I've had my 115 Suzy 4 stroke for about 3 yrs. If I recall correctly she was good to go in the first 20hrs, though the one piece of advice was to vary the revs around, so some idling, some cruising, some open. Gives the dealer some stats on the computer when you take it in for the 20hrs run-in check. Just confirm with your dealer of course

    Enjoy the new toy !

    Salty,

I have the same motor and was told for the first 15 mins idle only. Next 2 hours nothing over half throttle and vary your revs every 5 mins. Next 8 hours up to 4000rpm varying revs every 15 mins. After 10 hours do want you want.

idk.. with all new motors... your suppose to keep the rev under 3 until there about 2hrs... after you have 2-5hrs on the clock your suppose to warm it up or idle it for 15mins before rev the crap out of it... been doing that for years

Owners manual sets out what is required. Some people will tell you its not necessary...but it's not their motor. And the computer keeps a record of time spent at different rev ranges.

Just run it in properly (20 hrs at varying rev ranges) and its one less thing to worry about if you need a warranty claim.

I think your best off talking to your dealer about it and do exactly what they say.
This way there can be no issue with any problems if any do arise.

In saying this, what the others have said above sounds pretty much close to the mark.

    Re: New motor honeymoon period

I recently got a new suzi 60hp and the dealer did the fit out and water test on the new boat. The manager said to me "once she is warm vary the revs including a few short bursts at all she's got but don't go crazy"..All she has got is a hell of a lot on a 4.4m with a 1.85m beam!!!! haven't been back there since as I am out at night mostly but keen to get it in the dam for some speed tests soon

    Shagga,
A mate of mine is travelling up from Sydney today to pick up his 5.2 Formosa centre console.... Going to help him fit the electronics tomorrow and hopefully take it for a run in the bay sat morning before he heads back
