    garmin 7407 (7607)xsv un-boxing

so we started to get our stock of 7407xsv and 8s and soon 10s in today. thought id just do a quick un boxing to show what comes with .

interesting things of note is the inclusion of a NMEA2K drop cable and T connector "With moutning screw". the cover also feels thicker with a more secure click feel to the unit.
    over all. packaged well

76xx series come pre loaded with US bluecharts. 74xx dont come with maps... so...in australia we are only getting the 74xx series

    Hey Moose,

If I were going to go one of these, what transducer would you recommend for my tinny that mainly fishes shallow water. I'm after something that will make full use of the CHIRP capabilities of the unit.

    cheers

    Re: garmin 7407 (7607)xsv un-boxing

After a bit more reading, I'm assuming I need the GT50M-TM for full CHIRP on the down and side scanning on one of these units ?

    Re: garmin 7407 (7607)xsv un-boxing

Yep 12 pin GT50M-TM which is basically a GT30 TM and a TM150 combined into one transducer.

    or GT51M-TM for deeper depths.

    bingo. gt50m is your medium 300w chirp . 51 is 600w

    Transducer summary from THT

    http://www.thehulltruth.com/marine-e...sv-series.html

Just an observation from the comments on THT - but the higher frequencies are better for detail (like shallow water structure) and the lower frequencies better for depth (deeper water bottom fish detection).

just a quick condensed version of the transom mounts.

    Garmin GT40-TM – Plastic Transom Mount DownVü/SideVü 500 W (CHIRP 455/800 kHz) Traditional 500 W (77/200 kHz) Transducer with Temp (12-pin)

    Garmin GT41-TM – Plastic Transom Mount DownVü/SideVü 500 W (CHIRP 260/455 kHz) Traditional 600 W (50/200 kHz) Transducer with Temp (12-pin)

    Garmin GT50M-TM – Plastic Transom Mount DownVü/SideVü 500 W (CHIRP 455/800 kHz) Traditional 300 W (Mid-band CHIRP 80-160 kHz) Transducer with Temp (12-pin)

    Garmin GT51M-TM – Transom Mount DownVü/SideVü 500 W (CHIRP 260/455 kHz) Traditional 600 W (Mid-band CHIRP 80-160 kHz) Transducer with Temp (12-Pin)

there are thru hull versions of each available. as well as paired thru hulls for the larger units. at a considerable price increase
