Recommendations for family overnighter / outside fishing

    Hi all,

I've just sold my 17ft H/C with a view to getting a used bigger boat to accommodate the wife's luxury needs as well contain 4 little kids plus still be usable for proper fishing trips.

These will be the basic requirements:

    • Sleep 4 adults
    • have a toilet/shower
    • be trailerable
    • can be towed by a Land Rover Discovery 3 (3500kg capacity)
    • Good offshore capabilities
    • Set up or can be modified for fishing
    • Budget $50K (used)

It's probably a tall order but maybe there's something that fits the bill.

So far I've looked at Mustang 2200/2400, Four Winns Vista 248, Whittley Clearwater 2165. None of these are very well set up for fishing.

Is there anything else out there?

    Cheers.

    mustang 2800 sportcruisers,
    Whittley cruiser,

the above.. guess u just need mod the drive board and put alot of fish holder there

well luxury boat going fishing is kinda like taking city girl to the country side.. otherwise seafox WA and trophy WA would be more ideal

Get away from the need for a trailer and you'll do it easy. Plenty of 28/30 ft mustangs, montereys, four wins, bay liners etc that will fit in storage racks and be way more fit for purpose than a trailerable 26 which are always a terrible compromise.

Trying to combine a good fishing deck with a caravan on the water will always be a compromise, the closest i found was the Whittley Cruiser 660, excellent offshore with creature comforts. You could pick one up for your price range towing weight under 3000KG. I agree you get more boat when you step away from trailers, however i didn't want the extra cost of mooring or stacking. Good luck

Thanks for your replies. I'll have a look at the Cruiser 660, looks like a nice boat. Mustang 2200 is so far top of the list. I don't think I'm going to get the best of both worlds. The wife says its her turn to choose a boat seeing as though the last 3 have been fishing boats

Remember to always log on before heading offshore.

If you want a 680 sf a member of my family is selling one of the best you'll find for just under $50k but I don't think you will do many overnighters with 4 pob. The 680 applause will hide a few bodies and has shower/toilet/galley and is a genuine offshore boat which I have done plenty of fishing from. Stick that on your list too.

Make sure that you double check the weights on those larger "towable" cruisers. As an example, the vast majority of Whittley 700s are well over 3.5 tonne. Some are closer to 4.0 tonne. Check widths as well.

Go the 680 Applause with a set of trim tabs, mate has one with shower and toilet ,very comfortable inside and runs well in rough seas.beam is 2.5 legal .You wont have any problem with weight if you don't let the wife put anything on.Whittley 700s are well known for being overloaded with extras
