Tinnie corrosion?

Hi all, this is the 2nd time I've had this problem. I have a homemade live bait tank and I THINK it may have a leak as there appears to be crusty salt deposit see pic emanating from that area. It is very hard and I have tried all the usual things, hot water, bringing it back a bit with a wire wheel on a drill then coating the area it in oil but it has returned.
Any idea on why this is happening and how I can clean it and prevent it happening again?
could it be I have the battery cables on the battery and its reacting to a slow drip from the bait tank or.....

any help would be appreciated

sand it down and smooth the side then paint it, well i would anyway

I am wondering if it could be calcium buildup from the water. I get it sometimes on my reef aquarium. Best way to remove it is something acidic, and on the fish tank glass I just use vinegar. Maybe start with that and only try slightly stronger acid if needed.

If that is what it is, then yes, you must have a leak from the bait tank.

looks like electrolloysis do u have any earth wires bolted to the hull?

Does the tank normally sit in front of the build up?

if the battery has exposed terminals and getting wet it can earth through the salt crystals to the hull

I think what you are referring to marto is the platform that the floor is screwed onto, or the paddle handle...

Mitc, I've wire-brushed it on the end of the drill and tried a few other ways, then put a smear of oil to protect it or stop it from recurring but....and what would u paint it with?

Bay fisher I don't think its pitting as I've ground it off once before and the metal looks ok once you get into it, it's a crusty sort of thing, harder than I would've thought tho

Gazza, I don't think I do. The only wires that I had were connected to the battery from the motor charge unit and the electric start. I don't have the motor any longer as I've just sold it. I also have a fuse box attached to the hull with cabin lights, sounder, Nav lights etc installed by someone that knew what they were doing (not me lol)

Yep it does and I thought after I'd scrubbed it back last time that I'd selastic around the inlet/outlets n see what happens then, then.....it's the ONLY place it's happening so I'm guessing that it IS the live well and maybe there's a current coming from somewhere as well. I dunno...ANY ideas on whether I can take the boat somewhere for someone to have a look?
