Ipilot and spot lock problem, got gps but electric anchoring not working
I converted my Riptide to ipilot a couple of years ago, best toy on my boat. However, a couple of weeks ago when trying to electric anchor the system failed. I can no longer spot lock, nor engage auto pilot/cruise control. When I try these buttons on the hand controller I get a very rapid four beep signal. The GPS signal on the hand controller gives four bars so it looks like the ipilot is receiving a signal. The rest of the motor still works fine, steering and speed all OK.
Repairs at BLA are very exxy so before I go down that route, does anybody have a clue what may be going on?
Cheers, Dendrobe

Re: Ipilot and spot lock problem, got gps but electric anchoring not working
Thanks Stressless. I'll give it a test in the driveway to see if I can hear anything. When last on the water, when I depressed the button on the hand controller it sent some sort of signal as the ipilot head responded with a twittering type beep.

Where are you?
Have you tried re pairing the remote?
Have you tried another remote?
Is it v1 or v2 remote

Re: Ipilot and spot lock problem, got gps but electric anchoring not working
Stressless, I've had another play in the driveway with four bars of GPS. I cannot hear anything on the remote when I press any of the buttons. When I move up close to the ipilot I think I can hear the click that you are talking about from the base unit when I turn the motor on but that is the only control that makes such a click. Changing speed and direction doesn't make a similar click.
Ray, I'm in Sydney so sending the unit up to BLA is a real pest. I re-learned the remote but for no change in the symptoms. I still only get the four-beep twitter from the head unit when using the anchoring or the autopilot buttons on the remote. I've had the motor for about 3 years I think but don't really know if the remote is v.1 or v.2. I haven't tried another remote.
Greatful for your help fellas and would welcome any other suggestions.
When I've exhausted all suggestions I'll have to ring the techies at BLA but I pretty much know what they'll say "send it up to us and we'll have a look at it'. Several hundreds of dollars later and about $120 freight and I'll get it back!
Cheers, Den

Re: Ipilot and spot lock problem, got gps but electric anchoring not working
Version one had black lettering
v 2 has white lettering and slightly bigger screen and the battery is easier to get at.
Some of the early version ones had problems with the circuit boards.
See if you can borrow a remote locally to test out even your locaP3161154 (640x480).jpgP3161154 (640x480).jpgP3161154 (640x480).jpgl kota dealer may be able to assist.

Re: Ipilot and spot lock problem, got gps but electric anchoring not working
If you have the foot pedal still and the old control module, try plugging all that back in. If it all works then the problem is most likely in the I-Pilot workings and you should be able to send just that back rather than the whole motor - will save a bomb in freight and you will still have a motor but without the flash bits while it goes back. Just check with the BLA techies that this is OK.

Re: Ipilot and spot lock problem, got gps but electric anchoring not working
Ray, thanks for the pics, I've got V.1, I'll hunt up another remote & see if that makes a difference
Scottar, the old bits are in a box in the back shed so I'll hunt them up.
Looks like a chat to BLA will be in order after all one way or another. So, thanks all for your input, all the suggestions and the help is much appreciated.

Re: Ipilot and spot lock problem, got gps but electric anchoring not working
Bit of a long shot, but have you checked your Main battery is fully charged. I keep blaming my remote for all sorts of problems then find its actually low voltage in the deep cycle. Yes it still runs the electric and can get around Ok but failure to spot lock is normally the first sign of low voltage. Think I replaced 2 little batteries in the remote before I realised what the real problem was. I am a bit slow at electrics.

Electrickery is a bit like white mans' magic to me sometimes Graham but everything is fully charged at the moment. Thanks for your suggestion though.

As said above, try another hand controller, it's either the controller or the head unit.
I converted mine to I-pilot a few years ago too, good luck
