Yeah I think if you go out of your way to do the wrong thing and to hide stuff you deserve to lose the lot. I would say he has done this before.

Boat and tow vehicle should have been confiscated and 1 year taxable income (as per last tax return) or $50k (whichever is the greater)fine per person without time to pay or put on S.P.E.R.

Been going on for years and still going on not hard to spot when they anchor next to you and put on over 50 mackeral the worst part is sometimes your surrounded by guys doing much worse I pretended to ring fisheries on two guys once and got four slashed tyres for my troubles, the bag is way too generous as is those guys surprisingly were'nt that far over there limit compared to a lot I see.
Good to see them pick on the right industry for a change.

End of the day they were only over by 2 spanish and 9 spotties. Not good I know, but it's not the end of the world. I think it was a fair fine for a moderate breach of the law. It's not commercial quantities being taken here so for those saying "take a years income" or "take the car" have a think about it.
On the other side, as outlined in the article, how many people have bagged out legally and gone out again that day or within a week, or even within that month before ALL of those fish are consumed? You might as well be slapped with a fine of your last years taxable income, maybe even grab your car and boat.
