Why are you upset about the tiny pink bit of restricted area at the top of the cliff? I hazard a guess the cliff may be unstable? Am I missing something

I have wizzed off a " Please Explain " to National Parks.

For 40,000 years Australians have been using this piece of headland to whale watch, sunrise watch etc etc and to my knowledge, no humans have come to grief here.

Every cliff in this land is unstable, depending on who you ask.

The duty of care lies with NP and as far as that goes, a simple warning sign would and should be sufficient. Far more Fraser visitors are killed and injured each year on the beaches and sand dunes than from this magnificent vantage point.

I hope to recieve a reasonable answer from NP, but am expecting " SPIN ".

The politically correct fun police, at it again. We simply cannot be letting people have fun.

Well it appears the warning signs have been in place for years ( 10 ). They are not highly visible and according to the NPWS service officer who rang me this morning, they are small concrete blocks about 30cms high.

They were put in palce for " duty of care " reasons and to date, since they have been in place, there have been no incidents. They are only placed a couple of meters from the very edge and are designed to stop people walking down that " finger " cliff part on the NE corner, which I wouldn't go dwon anyway.

So at least they got back to me and explained the situation. They do agree that the signs are ignored, for the most part, but at least they are covering their arses.

If a place was shut down over possible fatality or injuries. They should go and brick up the doors of every pub, casinos and night clubs.
If this was brought up, they are about to police it with zero tolerance, will wait till October and see what happen. It may go the way of Hooks point.

Thing is, its not being shut down of the possibility of injury, its shut down because the department does not want to be sued as a result of an accident.

If that was the case, every headland that you can fish from would be banned....

I was up there at christmas and there were signs but i didn't read what they were saying so we got right up to the edge . Also someone has fallen off right at the tip . If you go close enough to the edge there is a plaque there.

In the early eighties I nearly rode off the tip of Indian Head on a motorbike. If it wasn't for my buddy already at the point yelling and waving for me to slow down I would have gone straight over the tip. It still haunts me now ! Of course, 35 years ago at trip to Fraser Island was a lot different to what it is today.. I wouldn't bother going there now.
