Ok, went down to the Redcliffe show.
Definitely worth a look if you were after a caravan.
    Probably 80% caravans / campers.
    15% 4x4
5% boats ( Mainly Brisbane Yamaha ) & didn't really see any tackle ( Not that I was looking for it ).
Spent a couple of hours walking around & didn't mind it.
Probably go to the RNA one next week as well

I did the Redcliffe show after doing Manly too .I live at Redcliffe so I it was an easy option.

A lot better show , set out was better , exhibitor stalls were better, parking was way better, organised better and there seemed to be more people in but less confusion. More boating industry suppliers at Manly I noticed as there was a few chandlery retailers there that Redcliffe lacked .
It was definitely more a van and 4x4 show but with support it could be as good as the RNA BCF and Outdoors show if the boating industry got behind it.
In terms of a van show Redcliffe was the best I've seen for tyre kickers looking at a van due to huge space they had to play with.

It costs retailers a bomb to go into these shows in more ways than one. Exhibition space, especially at the major shows, is quite often exorbitant, margins are typically down for multiple reasons and the interruption to day to day business can be a factor as well. With all of these smaller shows popping up, it is highly unlikely they will receive the same patronage from exhibitors as a couple of major shows a year would. When I was in the marine industry, we did the math on more than one occasion and in the end none of the shows were actually a viable money making exercise. Initially we kept attending, putting the exercise down to promotion or flag waving as it were, but in the end found that the 30 grand required to attend Sanctuary Cove and Brisbane (6x3 booth - not a lot of space) was better utilised elsewhere.

I enjoyed looking at the vans and camper trailers even though I'm not in the market for one at least for another 15 years, impressed with how smart they look these days. I was happy wondering around for a few hours but very little (Practically none) fishing gear except Crab n Gear was there selling some stuff.

The cost of lease space at these shows virtually rules out tackle sellers as you would have to sell a s**t load of tackle just to cover the cost of the lease.

Generally I don't bring up old news, however .

When I was part of Sundown and part of the team that put them big stands we used to run together at the Boatshow and Tackle and Tinnie we sold plenty enough to cover costs and make considerable revenue . Tackle was the only section to hold any margin in a show .Electronics were as a whole at best a loss leader and at worst just advertising to get people in.
The rise of BCF and Tackle World has put a stop to that kind of stand that could handle big trade and quantities of tackle and chandlery as an independent and the ability for a customer to really shop hard and get good value for going to a show has somewhat diminished also .

Anyhow , days gone by now......but with the right team it could still be done.
