    Avionics Gold or Platinum?

I fish in depths of no more than 40m - and mainly in Port Phillip Bay.

    I have the HDS12T.

What charting cartography is best recommended?

Avionics Gold or Platinum or Platinum Plus?

I am interested in pursuing contours and perhaps the 3D views these contours bring?

platinum is of cause going to be better. obviously cost a few more dollars in some cases.
the new navionics gold 50X cards have the fishing charts built in "fish n chips" so platinum gives just 3d and satellite imaging over the gold.

Platinum has a few extra features over the Gold. The main ones being 3d - great for showing off to your mates over a beer if you must but IMO no real benefit on the water, and the satellite overlay - can be a different kettle of fish though. One market we identified was for NT guys fishing during the wet. The photos detailed a lot of small creeks that are not on any map. This advantage will vary dependant on location, and in your case Splash for PPB, is probably not worth the extra coin but it is worth having a good look at both before you make a decision

From what I can tell from the website - no. The Sonar chart feature seems to be available to both formats as Moose has stated above. I would still try and get a look at both at a local retailer to satisfy yourself though Splash. You may find a feature in Platinum that makes you think it's worth it. Not everybody thinks the same.

This very topic re contours just came up the other day, a mate is looking to upgrade.

Is there anyone with a Platinum Card able to post 2 or 3 random locations, I will then upload the same spots from the Gold Card and Silver Card to compare.

    Thread hijack alert...
Moose - with my Elite7 I have to manually switch between fish n chips and normal with my Gold. Fish n chips only works up to a certain zoom level after which I have to switch back otherwise i see almost no detail. This normal?
I asked both Navionics and Lowrance with the usual response. ..
