I have a standard horizon with an airmair P66 transducer which I have taken out of the boat because I have replaced it with a Garmin 551DV. The Horizon doesn't recognise the transducer, or at least the sounder isn't working on the head unit.
I've done all the usual stuff, turning it off and turning it back on again (thanks Roy and Moss) unplugging etc to no avail. I suppose I could take it to an electronics shop but not sure where there would be one.
Any advice on this issue? The GPS still works fine.
Also wondering whether I should keep it as a back up or sell it. Despite it being a massive screen (9" maybe?) and a GPS card goldie to mooloolaba even if I get the sounder to work I'll probably only get 100 clams max.
Any opinions/ advice?

Sounds like you have a good 9'' Chartplotter.......Keep it if the GPS part works fine..and you have room for it.

If they are the same as other CMap produced machines ( and from the looks I think they are), there was something funny with transducers and sounder modules. I know I had issues with a few transducers requiring replacement at what would be perceived as an early time frame. Does that unit have a separate black box for the sounder module or is it all built in?

It's all built in, and just stopped working, which is why I had to go the garmin 551DV. (haven't even had it on the water although I installed it two weeks ago, might not get out this weekend either.) Wasn't planning on having to fork out for a new sounder. Thanks for the info. Any ideas on how to isolate that issue Scottar?

For starters, not sure on the model but the sounders can be enabled/disabled. Following is from the manual for a CP300.

17.0 ENABLE/DISABLE
The internal Fish Finder may be enabled (default setting) or disabled by the following
procedure:
1. From the Chart page, press
[MENU], move the ShuttlePoint knob to highlight SETUP
MENU
and press [ENT].
2. Move the ShuttlePoint knob to highlight
ADVANCED SETUP and press [ENT] or move
the ShuttlePoint knob to the right.
3. Move the ShuttlePoint knob to highlight
IN/OUT CONNECTIONS and press [ENT] or
move the ShuttlePoint knob to the right.
4. Move the ShuttlePoint knob to highlight
FISH FINDER and press [ENT] or move the
ShuttlePoint knob to the right.
5. Move the ShuttlePoint knob up/down to select
OFF and press [ENT] or move the
ShuttlePoint knob to the right.
6. Press
[CLR] or move the ShuttlePoint knob to the left until the Chart page is shown.

Try this or check your manual for something similar. If the sounder is turned on but still doesn't see the transducer, given you now have the Garmin, I would simply turn it off and leave it. You could try a full master reset but will lose all your waypoints.

what model is it? and how much do you want for it? I need a bigger chartplotter, im having trouble seeing the 5" lowrance one I have

It's a CPF 300i. Has a pretty good screen, ok to mount in dash but not on pedestal.
Not sure whether I want to sell it as I probably won't get much for it, even with a card. 4" screen with card.. say $400?...

yeah sorry, not sure what I was going on about there. It's a 7” Color WVGA (800x480) sunlight viewable display. according to the website.
