Had to go to jcar today and noticed they had a powertech 15 amp 9 stage charger at a reasonable price, are these similar/equal to a ctek charger, anyone used one. I did open the box and had a look at the manual but it seemed a bit skimpy. Just asking as I was looking for a new charger.
Well mate I recently bought the Powertech 15a 9stage......for $229.......it would be the one you are looking at.......From Road Tech Marine which is from the same parent company as Jaycar.
The first one lasted about well nearly a month and while it worked did do as asked.......but then......nothing plugged it in and nothing nada zip......Took it back and they were really good about it and offered a refund/replacement whatever I chose.........so I asked what had been the history on these chargers and they said mine was the first they had any trouble with that they knew of........I know someone that works there and they were being honest IMO.
Anyway got another and have used it.........on for 15 mins and the overheat light lit up......hmmm......unplugged it didn't seem hot let it cool down for an hour or so plugged it back in and it has worked fine since.......
So.....well got my doubt's but i'll keep my receipt and use it as much as possible to see how it goes.......funnily I can't find much on the net about them but so far have not found anything negative about the Powertech gear.
They can all have a dud one I suppose my mate has had 2 Cteks die on him well within warranty and replaced.

I am not sure what price the Jcar chargers are, but you can get a Ctek M200 (15A) for $219 on EBay delivered (AU supplier) with local 5 year warranty. While the Jcar stuff may be ok, I would think Ctek would have the better reputation and 5 year warranty ids hard to go past.
Dan 5, found a few reviews which were not good, needless to say they could have been just the odd one.
Darren J, 5 years is worthy of a go, I didn't check the warranty period on the powertech which is selling at $199 at the moment.
I've got the Powertech 4 Amp 5 stage charger and it's been great. I had no hesitation buying it as Jaycar always stand behind their products.

it has an inbuilt led meter that gives you a choice of reading voltage or current.
Comes ready connected to an anderson plug plus another 2 anderson plugs one with clips the other with lug terminals.
It automatically detects the voltage of the battery that you connect it to.

Are you sure that's for the marine charger i.e M200 or another 15 amp charger in their range which are usually only 2 years. The product sheet included on the aussie website shows 5 years for the M200.Originally Posted by Dan5

By the way i have a couple of the M200's and they have been fine. Recon mode actually works as well - lent one to a friend with a dead flat battery and bought it back to life - load tested as good as new.

Ray, from the short time I looked at the 15 amp model it appears to require selecting whether it is 12 or 24 volt and it didn't appear to have the option of reading volts or amps maybe go back and have another look. This one has an Anderson plug connection plus the lead with an Anderson plug with lug terminals, would have preferred if it had two sets of these but then again another set is only about $10 as they would be permanently mounted to the battery box. I have looked on the net for reviews and the only ones I can find are all bad although that is usually the case, few people get on to rave about a product but still there seems to be more about powertech than ctek.
I had a look at the link above and noticed that it specified that it was outdoor rated at IP44, that's an indoor rating, outdoors wouldn't last at all and in fact in the shed the salt water content would stuff it in no time, maybe that is what the issue is with powertech, need to now have a look at ctek IP rating.
