    ? Whiting in Nerang

    Hi
just wondering about whiting in the nerang.

I just want to fish somewhere else.

Are they catching them up around council chambers. Havnt been there for many years.

    How about getting some yabbies.

we use to get them on western side of Wavebreak. Is that still the go orcan someone recommend somewhere else. Will get some blood worms but just so expensive.

Any help with best tides will be appreciated

    cheers
    greg

Yeah they are catching a few up there a bit hit and miss though. Blue blinds is the spot to be some absolute horses coming from there.

We had a fishing meet there a couple of weeks ago and the largest for the comp went 52cm 550g. The average was 30cm. I personally did all right. The kids and I caught 18 the largest 32cm smallest 28cm. 2.5kg in total. I had sandworms and mud worms. Only made a difference when you were further away from the seaway. Nothing touched the sandworms in the Coomera or Nerang rivers. But both accounted for decent fish around the northern end of wave break. Interesting even with the fresh the bigger fish seemed to be further up stream.

Greg, blue blinds is a spot some of the locals know of. You have to fish the nerang at night and have good quality bloodworms or don't bother going. I fished council chambers about a month ago and we caught a few there but there are more productive areas to fish in the area at the moment

Still Dreamin is that a misprint "52cm and 550gr", a 42cm whiting would weigh that much.

There have been several 42cm whiting caught from there recently and they averaged between 520gr and 650 gr depending on how close to spawning they were, interested in any info you might have, cheers wayne

    Yeah dean.
just tired of fishing this northern end of bay for very little.
I was just looking for somewhere different, but is abit of a drive from Woody Point.

we use to get them on yabbies years ago.

    Oh well we will see.

    cheers

We head down there a bit but this year have had some poor showings. Some nights all they want is worms, others it is yabbies. sometimes they will change their minds mid tide. If I am in the little tinny, provided the weather is ok, we launch at Labrador or Lodders Creek, pump bait on the banks south of Wavebreak on the mainland side and then head up river. If it's blowing and I don't feel like getting wet, I'll pump bait and then stick it back on the trailer and drive down to the ramp at Chevron Island. I think the ramp at the Sundale bridge is supposed to be open again too.

    Thanks Scottar.
i have used that ramp at chevron island. Thats a good little ramp.
thats a long run down from wavebreak to council chamber, when speed is 6 knots.

glad to hear the yabbie banks are still on s/w side of wavebreak.

Only takes about 20-25 minutes and is usually a nice drive. Plenty to look at. stick to 6 Knots where applicable but give it the beans where we can.

Yeah, must be a miss-print, as I have never heard of a whiting hitting the fifty mark in Qld.

Greg, the Isle of Capri ramp is just a couple hundred mtrs from the chambers area.

Seahorse the Nerang has been fishing ok most evenings, Chambers area has been having the worst season in the 19 years i have lived at the Coast.

Western channel at Wavebreak holding some small whiting, just legal.

Wind has been a major problem the last month or so, front and back anchors essential in these conditions, cheers wayne

Yup, that's the one I meant. "Chevron Island" where did that come from.
