Minn Kota trim tabs question
Hi all,
Have a set of MK trim tabs (came with the boat) - one of which has ceased to function. On removing the dodgy actuator, I can hear some sort of fluid slosh around inside. Not having installed them, I'm not sure if this fluid is a very light oil meant to be inside or (most likely I fear) salt water. I assume it must be water - but as there is no presence of fluid leaking out of the actuator I thought I'd ask if this is normal (i havn't removed the working one).
Also - I've just discoverd that MK no longer make their tabs. Brilliant. Anyone got any inside info on why they stopped production? No sales or plagued with problems such as mine? Just interested is all.
If it is cactus - can I install a set of lenco actuators using the existing MK rocker switch/wiring?
Any and all suggestions would be welcome.

Re: Minn Kota trim tabs question
The wiring would be fairly universal or easily modified to suit any brand actuator. Sorry i have no experience with mk actuators regarding the fluid.Try that actuator on the wiring for the other side to check it is the actuator not the wiring.

How many wires into the MK actuator - assuming there is only two, you should be able to wire in an actuator from another brand if you can find one the right length. Not sure about Lenco but Lectrotab definately use a two wire system. Does the MK system have any sort of indicator for tab angle? It may be an issue if it does.

Re: Minn Kota trim tabs question
Hi Scottar,
My tabs did not have the indicator option fitted - just a plain rocker switch. Yes - they are 2 wires. I'll check Lectrotab (hadn;t herd of them before).
Cheers!
