    Consolation Wahoo

We Joined the carpark in 80m out of the seaway on sunday.
Found getting bait very tough, and finally had 2 slimies to deploy
Eventuallly dropped one all the way to the bottom where we had a hookup but no run at all, just dead weight.
Drove in circles a bit then this bloody marlin shot straight up to the top and jumped and spat the hook so close to the boat that the hook landed in the boat.
Looked like 60 to 80kg black, there were a few about at that size. On reflection a smaller rubber band to my tearaway weight might have helped, as would believing my son that we had a hookup and driving away from it a bit - who knows.
Pissed off with such a poor effort and frustrated by not being able to get more bait we put the lures out and had bit of a troll.
Picked up this speedster about half an hour later

length was 155cm and pulled the scales down at 19kg.

Not what we were after but certainly a few meals in there for us and friends.
Interestingly fish took a Pakula shredder in Torro. It has been out 4 times at shotgun for 4 fish. Dont know if it is the position or the lure, but I just keep reskirting it and putting it out.

A tasty consolation. A shame about the black, is the young bloke still reminding you about it?

Well done Brendan. We trolled wide of Lookout Sunday morning for 4 hours for zilch. Very little bait around out wide.

Will have to hit the coast next time instead and get on the end of that queue!

    cheers

Note to self: Don't argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience....

nice to hear from you Grant
Yep you dont need a gps to find the spot at 80m
    just a compass and eyes!
theres fish there for sure, but too crowded to troll except round the outside!
Last time found some really good shows about 400 to 500 m away from all the boats in most directions
I think most fish are taken on livies at the moment
    Cheers
    Brendan

By the way , 8 hrs motor time on the 175 for $68 - cool!

Were you using a circle hook? Don't be to hard on yourself about jumping that fish off. We lose very few fish on live baits now days, but there is something about that deep sinker bait that still sees us lose the odd one here and there, and it happens exactly how you mentioned....get the bite, free spool, come tight, then they slowly make their way to the surface and first jump the whole bait comes back. The next 10 fish will hook up perfectly using the same technique. The odd one must feel something is not quite right and not eat the way the others do. Driving the boat away will do nothing apart from giving you more line to wind back in. Some are just destined to fall off unfortunately.

Nice Wahoo Tenzing. I went out to the 80 m East of the Seaway also. Was first boat at the spot at 5.30 am, heaps of big bait balls in 40-60m. Hard to catch livies due to the fast drift and I had a run and missed it on my first livie down deep. A few boats turned up after that so I went trolling and came back through the area at 9 am. Only one boat there and most of the bait was gone or broken up. I hooked up and had it on for 10 minutes before it threw the hooks. 2-1-0 for me but an enjoyable day and missed the crowds.
