upsizing motor..... what would you expect ?

As the title says what would you expect when upsizing a motor from an 85hp to a 140hp? Both omc 2 strokes of about the same vintage(mid 90's). Boat is an easyrider 5100 half cab.

extra weight, more fuel, easier to get on the plane, faster.

recently upsized from 130hp normal 2-stroke to 200hp HPDI 2-stroke
difference is amazing, feels like having another set of balls to my manhood....

    - bigger prop means much lower planning speed
    - lots more power
    - fuel and oil consumption almost halved
    - cruising speed increased significantly
    - rpms reduced significantly
    - higher top speed
    - less engine noise
    - no smoke
    - completely different boat to deal with

Not sure about your fuel savings, try to get hpdi model if this is a main factor.
normal 2-strokes are a lot thirstier in comparison

didn't omc go from the 85 to 90hp as early as the eighties? i think back when they were 85hp, omc had the 115/135hp, and then went to 90/115/140 in the eighties. there was a 110hp somewhere in there to. in the 90's the 120/140hp's were a big block and were considerably heavier and thirstier!

I recently upgraded from 115hp to 140hp.. saved 7kg's a corner. All is good, just make sure the extra weight doesn't cause you to need extra flotation in the rear to balance out the weight addition. Cannot argue against extra hp -that can only work in your favour unless you WOT a lot. Last thing is insurance considerations.
