Australia Day Long Weekend Blacks and dollie

Headed out Last Sunday for a fish with a couple of mates Jo and Dobbo. Plan was for Marlin and some dollies. Got out the cape early and set the riggers. The Redcliffe Aussie Day weekend game fishing comp was on and it was good to see some of the big gameboats out there in action. Passed Big Business a couple of times as my good mate Jason was working the deck for the comp. We dropped a good size marlin and had another hit but no hook up. The marlin we tagged hit the short corner hard and did a spectacular jump right across the back of the boat before tearing off hooked up. I so wish I had my go pro running. Got it to the boat tagged and released safely back to fight another day. Pretty soon after a good size female dollie smashed the bait we had out on the long rigger it to come out of the water when it hit the bait and was just going mental. Poor old dobbo did not know what hit him haha but he got it to the boat which was a great effort and catch for him. He was very exited by it all getting on to a good size fish. I was the unlucky one and got nothing but I was working the wheel for the day and it was great to see Jo and Dobbo get on to some good fish.

All up REEL MENTAL went 4-3-2 for the day which we were happy with. Going to enter the Australia day Gamefishing comp next year and see if we can give these big game boats a run for their money.

    Nice work fisho!

What sort of outriggers and bases are you running? I'm looking to put some on my 6.2m walkaround plate boat

    Some good pics Mick.

A bonus to get a couple of mates onto some fish to remember - well done!

Water looks nice and blue too.

    Thanks for posting

Great stuff- we drove around the ocean the same day as well but with no luck. I am going to install a set of the same bases in basically the same spot on my boat with a set of 4.5m poles. Hopefully they should get out wide enough in my 6m boat- currently running rods out the side and the lure is still in the wash

Jason I have a set of Viper Gunnel mount 6 mtr Outriggers mate paid $1000 for the poles bases. They are made by Bell Marine and do the job just fine. All I had to change was the pulleys which I got from Reelax which cost about $80 for 4.

Yeah mate the further the lines are out the better. The 6mtr poles are the best size as far as I see it. 90% of the hits I have had this season have been on the poles.

Here are a few pics Jas got of us on the day. This will give you guys an idea of the size of the rigger poles I am running. The further out the better.Conditions were nothing short of fantastic and the water colour was amazing.
