GC little black marlin

Have been giving the little black marlin a crack off the Goldie over the past month with a mix of trolling and live baiting.

I've mostly been fishing on my boat producing 12, and have had a few sessions on mates with another 5.

16 were released, with the other tail wrapped and died in the fight, so we took it home to try. Baked and grilled was average, but smoked was ok, although I wouldn't kill 1 just to eat it.

Some nice dollies about too which we also smoked and found to be really tasty...

Fingers crossed the fish keep coming!

Well done and great shots. I've never live baited for them, how are you rigging for marlin?

Top effort a dozen + in a season...most people wont catch that in a lifetime. If you dont mind me asking roughly how many have you caught on lures and has there been a stand out colour/ size/ "style'?

Lethal, rigging the livie on a braid drop-back looped onto the hook.

Paullee, I mostly fish solo and tend to troll more than live bait and so 9 fish were caught trolling and 3 on baits on my boat. Fishing on mates rigs we live bait more as it keeps everyone busy, and 4 of 5 were taken on baits.

Have only ran 2 lures this year, a Zac attack x small fox with a diamond head in blue Hawaii and a small pink lava with a slant face head. The lava finished in front with 6!
