    Fish ID, Port of Brisbane

Went out a few weeks ago and caught this. We were not sure what it was, so threw it back. It was around 40-50cm. We've tried identifying it via books and the net, but can't put our fingers on it.

    Help appreciated.

You don't want to get your figers anywhere near those. It is a "sea toad" (Green Toad Fish ?? or similar) and the things have a set of teeth like bolt cutters. I have had them bite hooks in half. They are a typical member of the toad fish family and are extremely toxic.

Annoying??, you haven't lived untill you're deep dropping the shelf, with about $300 worth of braid, hooks, swivels and trace out, and one swims along the surface and snips the line right where the small ripple is on the surface where it goes in the water.....now THATS annoying.

Hahaha haven't had that happen but had deckies cut the line on the prop with 600m of braid out a few times.

Yeah, but at least you can yell at the deckies, damn Toads just snip you off then continue on their way, even worse when you have a good fish on and still have a couple of hundred metres to go and they nip the line at the surface, and you lose the lot! Shit things, I hate them, at times they get in plagues, and are worse than any fishing pest you can think of.

I would say this on was around 40-50cm and my other half actually caught it. It was exciting with the rod bent over thinking yep keeper, until we seen it and said "what is this?"
