I am looking at doing some trolling for Dollies and Macs off Mooloolaba on the Australian Day long weekend. Just after some general tips and answers to some basic questions.
I am looking at targeting the close in reefs – starting at Gneerings and heading towards Murphys and Currimundi.
Normally I fish the Gold Coast but since we are up there with some friends it will be a good chance to get out.
Questions I have:
Any reliable places to get live bait?
Skirts or Hardbodies? I normally run X-Raps between 2-5 meters for Hardbodies
Slow trolling dead baits? Valid Approach up there?
Will be taking two other guys with me who aren’t that experienced so will not head out too deep
Any advice would be welcome
The nearings and south get hit pretty hard and on a public holiday you won't even be able to set your course there will be that many boats on the nearings, we normally head off coolum around 50m of water, we troll with livies and quite often once you find the fish you can just float the live baits out. Two weeks ago we bagged out with two of us in the boat, but only one solid bull all the others where around 80cm. Great fun hope you find a few.
