Editing and managing waypoints for FURUNO and GARMIN
Thought i'd finally post up some simplified info on how to manage GPS marks...
Started off by downloading the mapping software, in this case i'm using Garmin GPS Mapsource because i'm running a mac. As far as i know this is freeware. This program will allow you to store waypoints and manage them.
If anyone else has a more user friendly mapping program please chime in
Next step was to find a SD card smaller than 2 GB so i could download all my marks from a furuno NAVnet Vx2. I choose to download all options onto the SD card but as far as i'm aware the waypoints are contained in the *.rou file.
With the SD card in a reader i purchased GPS utility and paid for the registration. The 70 odd dollar charge is well worth it!!!
Open the *.rou file in GPS utility and then click save as to convert it into a file source that map source can read. in this case it is a *.GDP
Open the *.GDP in Garmin base map and there she is.. all your GPS waypoints.
Perhaps the more versed GPS users can add to this or recommend another easier mapping program.
