That also crossed my mind if I sold it privately! how would I get the outboard and controls removed in order to get the cash in my hand.[emoji53]

Have just noticed a guy advertising on Gumtree as wanting a 75 Merc 2 Stroke post 2004. Might be worth a phone call.

Watch out if you're looking to repower to a 75hp merc 4 stroke. Unless they have a new model that engine is very very heavy and may not suit the boat you are putting it on (a poly craft? What size?).

With that much more weight it will change the performance of the boat dramatically, and maybe not for the better.

I would estimate your trade would be lucky to be trade valued any more than 3k.

Sell it privately to someone who will appreciate the low cost decent engine.

Thanks for the advice Darren. Have thoroughly done my homework. The older Mercury 4 strokes were extremely heavy pigs and definately unsuitable for my Poly.

The new models on the other hand have hit the nail on the head, have spoken with my service agent regarding the minimal extra weight between my current outboard and the new model and have been advised that because Poly boats are known to be a heavy boat the new Mercury 4 stroke will be suitable for my application.

As for the trade in price I scored an extra 2k on top of the price you mentioned above and I won't have the hassle of attempting to remove my existing outboard and controls.

So for the quote I received I get a late model 4 stroke and Vessel View 4 to replace all my analog gauges. [emoji2]

You've done well then and they obviously want your business. That engine could be bought new for well under 10k. I hope it all works out well for you.

Are you trying to be funny Noelm?[emoji1]A tonne is like 1000kg, don't think I'm going to strap a tonne of weight on the transom.
The new Mercs from 75-115 all weigh 163kg dry,. Don't think that comes close to a tonne?

Some punters think that it is a crime for a business to make a profit on a trade in, but its not. last time I checked, profit was actually a requirement for a business to stay afloat.

Its your job to know your prices for private sales, and its easy if you do some research.
