Understand that it's illegal to trailer a boat wider than 2.5m on a regular license. If it's officially listed as 2.59m by manufacturer, will I have a problem with QLD transport? Can someone briefly enlighten me on the permit /licensing requirements or share their experiences on this issue? Thanks.

How wide is the trailer? These threads usually go for pages and pages, with no clear definitive answer, over width boat is doable, but can be inconvenient, over width trailer however is a whole different ball game.
After reading Form 26 its pretty clear to me what I need to do. As you have said doable but a pain in the ass. Having a over width trailer would be something I don't want to even go down. Just building a new trailer and made it 2.490m wide. 2.5 and over your world changes completely. The other problem I had to look at is the overall measurement of the tow vehicle and load combined.
Trying to comply with all the regulations at times can be a hand full but if you don't the end results are never good. I don't see to many over wide boats heading down the road with flashing lights, flags and signs. After reading the From 26 and I get he boat back together I will be setting the rig up so I comply.

I'm a stickler for rules. 100% agree that everyone's happy until something happens and the insurance company disowns you. It's a risk I'm not prepared to take. However, I'm just wondering whether there's some allowance given for rigs that's just slightly over. Brett62 is there anything in rule book that says allowance up to 2.6m or is it unwritten? Haven't had time to read Form 26 yet, don't know what the width of trailer is but I know boat's beam is 2.59m. Asking because I'm looking at buying a new boat and would probably not consider those over the limit if it's going to be too much of a hassle. Thanks.

Form 26 states 2.5m to 2.9m. I even remember reading on another thread on here where someone got measured by the transport Department on the road side and was cautioned as he was over width due to the fact that he didn't have the boat centred on the trailer when he loaded it from the ramp. He was not fined but it just goes to show they can certainly do you. If my beam was 2.5m and the trailer is 2.490m I would not need to be off centre to much to be out side the regulations.
I would think you would need to be unlucky to be fined for it if your just outside the 2.5m but luck can run out. I am just going to set myself up to comply with the regulations. Insurance companies would go to the letter of the law if you were involved in accident as would the Police. Someone else may have some more information about this but as I read the regulations it's pretty clear.
No, there is no "just over" it's either legal or not, just like drink driving, you're under 05 or you're charged and fined, there is NO leeway, laws must be that way.

It is relatively simple, trailer width and maximum load width: Section 6.4.
Max combination length: 19m
Max trailer width: 2.50m
Max Width of load: 2.90m (i.e.no more than 20cm overhang on either side)
Max Height: 4.30m
Warning signs Section 8.1:
One at the front of vehicle, one at the rear of the trailer or load, whichever is longer.
If vehicle, trailer & load are over 7.5m you can occupy 2 lanes to make a turn if you have a 'Do not Overtake turning vehicle' sign on the back.
Warning flags Section 8.2:
One on each corner of the vehicle combination.
Lighting requirements Section 8.4:
Headlights always on.
at night yellow side lights required every 2m from front vehicle to the rear of the load.
2 red clearance lights on the rear of the load within 40cm of the max width, higher than 1m off the ground & less than 2.1m
1 all round flashing yellow warning light.
Section 10 covers additional driving requirements. I'll paraphrase:
poor visibility <250 metres: park somewhere safe until it improves.
Speed limit reduced to max 90km/h.
You must stay at least 200m behind another oversize vehicle travelling in the same lane unless overtaking or in a built up area where it is impractical.

7.3 Christmas, New Year and Easter restrictions for the transporting of over width
boats
7.3.1
When Christmas Day falls on a Sunday or a Monday, restrictions applying to
oversize vehicles and combinations commencing on the 24 December, will be
extended to commence from 12 noon on the Friday prior to Christmas Day.
7.3.2
When 1 January falls on a Friday, restrictions applying to oversize vehicles and
combinations will be extended to 11.59pm on 3 January of that year.
7.3.3
A vehicle/combination transporting over width boats is not permitted to travel
throughout Queensland from the Thursday before Easter to the Tuesday after
Easter inclusive

I am thinking about down sizing to a 12ft tinny and carry it on the roof rack.
