Sydney Hotel with secure boat parking?

    Hi all,

Heading up to Sydney over the Aust Day long weekend and looking for a hotel in Sydney that has easy and secure parking for trailer boat, 4.85m cc. Anyone have recommendations? Anywhere close to, or between, Frenchs Forest and Meadowbank. 4-4.5 stars preferred.

    Thanks.

You might get lucky and find a place out near Frenchs Forest that has parking space, but close to the city you pay through the nose (and lucky to find) space for just a car, might be better off down near Manly? Much closer to the Harbour, and not all that far from where you said.

Mate I don't know Sydney very well but I have travelled with the boat through WA, NT and QLD. I would guess there's not too many hotels around (especially Sydney) that will cater for what you want, at least without a far chunk of $ involved. I found caravan parks the go, you shouldn't have any trouble finding ones with self contained cabins available and if you word them up prior to arrival, ample parking available. In most cases you can have the boat right next to the cabin or very near, which helps with keeping an eye on it. Good luck

mate no idea of your budget, how many people or reason to stay near frenches forrest / medowbank but.......... motel carparks are not secure even with video if you are silly enough to leave anything in boat if you know what I mean- bloody opportunists . wheel clamp and chain it to a post just about always.

10 minutes drive away - has boomgate and cameras from memory and staff about the place

You are 15 minutes drive away from good boat ramp middle harbour and same to Drummoyne ramp.. I assume intention is to go onto the harbour?.
Not sure if you have done aussie day on the harbour before but if you haven't you need to run the gauntlet of megga idiots at ramps and fair few once a year wankers on water. Let me know outline of your fairweather and crap weather plans and might give you some direction on what we have done in the past ?

    Only interested in motels? BB?

http://linridgerest.com.au/ same convenience as above but 5 minutes closer to FF and has owners on premises.

I haven't stayed at either but know the Nat park well and friends were going to stay at BB but cancelled trip.
Read january " afloat' magazine for harbour restrictions and waterways website

If you really after 4-5 star just call the major chains or look on lastminute etc and confirm you can grab a 2nd parking space for the trailer as all would have underground parking and that size boat is easy enough to just unhitch and walk into a tight spot on the jockey wheel. They all have cameras and electric rollers for security

Re: Sydney Hotel with secure boat parking?

Thanks all for such great info. I'm heading up the week prior to Aust Day W/E to fish with a mate and will be staying at his place but wife is joining me over the Aust Day W/E for some R&R and will move to a hotel. Will not be going out on the water over the W/E - as advised I think it will prob be a nightmare.

Will try and leave boat at mates house or even dealer where I bought boat if possible.

If all else fails will try follow advice given.

    Thanks again.

You can glamp inside taronga zoo or cockatoo island for a 1 off experience or a couple of nights over at "Q station" quarantine station at Manly or if the wife wants to be in the city the best views and great bar are in shangri la or intercontinental but just comes down to budget , convenience an what you want and if you have kids in tow. Jonahs is the northenr beaches bit of luxury with day spa . Depends so much on if you want beach, city or harbour. Harbourview at North Sydney is midrange and good value as well with views.

If your mate is at Frenches Forrest there is plenty of parking and a bunnings tarp over boat even if you have it on street and a chain to a post with keep the curious at bay for a few days as long as he isn't on a busy through road but other suburbs ??? Just check your insurer will cover you if parked on a public road and not hitched to a car.

Sydney harbour on Australia day etc isn't too bad if you are prepared and want to do it the once.

Stuff around darling harbor ( beware a lot of construction there at minute) or even the casino is often good value and convenient .

How about a complete turn around, and leave your boat at home, fish with your mate for the week, and if the weather is good later on, do a charter (either in the Harbour or offshore) or hire a boat if you want to do your own thing? Plenty of good charter operators, and boat hire as well.
