    Relay help please

Hi all I am after advice on what relay to use if there is even one out there that will do what I want.
the led flood lights which draw 2.25A each will be mounted on pivoting arms on the rear of the canopy on my ute the plan is to use them for reverse lights that both turn on with one switch in the cab and for flood lights for camping that I can turn on individually with switches on the rear so I need a relay with 2 powered terminals out of it that once turned off have no link between them anyway here is a rough diagram of what I want any help will be greatly appreciatedrelay diagram.jpg

Either use diodes in your feeds to the relay and use the same relay or use two separate relays in parallel with each other is the easiest option. Sorry misread - you can get a double pole relays from electronics places - try Jaycar. My first response was to allow you to wire the feed from the vehicles reversing lights in so that the lights turn on as soon as reverse is selected. Just make sure you never forget to turn them off when on the road - illegal as far as I know to have a white light facing backwards apart from when reversing.

I'd keep it simple, one switch in the cab and if you're camping & want a light on then go to the cab & turn it on.

I'm no auto leccy. Let's clear that up. But I'll help with my ideas.

My thoughts are twin circuits into the lights.

One triggered from standard reverse. Into a relay pin 86. Pin 30 constant. Pin 85 earth. And pin 87 up to the lights. Run an in cab switch between pin 87 and the lights to turn off when driving in car parks etc.

For camping purposes a simple constant supply through a pair of toggle switches on the tray, piggy backed into the lights will supply power when needed without getting in the cab. It won't affect the reverse light function or wiring.

Effectively just a y junction of wiring terminating at the lights

    Re: Relay help please

It was a black night so I thought I'd leave my car in reverse on the ramp so I could see what I was doing.
351 V8 Fairlane auto choke running at fast idle with me at the trailer just starting to winch... creak, roll, accelerate and by the time I got into the car to hit the brakes it was floating.
Then I couldn't open the door due to water pressure, water started gushing through the window at a huge rate of knots, it was time to take a breath & bail out... I made it.
There I was standing on the ramp and all I could see was a glow from the interior light and the very tip of my radio aerial and my mate floating in my boat which was still attached to the winch cable.
Meanwhile a crowd of about 20 late night neckers had gathered so I also had an audience.
My mate dropped the boat off at a friends wharf, I got a lift home from a pair of neckers, grabbed the wife's car and collected my mate.
Got a tow truck to pull the car & trailer out the next day at low tide.
Went and collected the boat after getting my trailer back.
The car was written off, the fishing club gave me a gold brick trophy and I learned a valuable lesson.
Don't ever leave your car in reverse on a boat ramp to activate your reversing lights.
The above is a true story.
