    Live bait tank

    hello again,

currently in the process of overhauling the old cruise craft 166 and looking into a live bait tank, now the fuel tank is upfront i feel i can accommodate one.

I was just wandering if it would be possible to substitute an aerator for a constant supply of new water by way of a spare bilge pump i've got laying around, i figure this should provide enough oxygen and save me a few $.

has anyone done this or will i be looking at a tank full of dead fish if i go down this route?

i would think you would want a way to drain the water as quick as you are pumping it so its not overflowing and spilling everywhere. if you had a pump bringing water in and just a hole for it to exit, would it always just be overlfowing or would the pressure from the incoming pumped water force the old water out just as quick?
unless you have a pump of the same capacity pumping it out I imagine it would not be the best way to do it...

All you need is a pump of around 500gph or bigger pumping fresh sea water into the tank via a 19mm hose with a 25mm outlet for the water to overflow out of the tank.
Push the clean water to the bottom of the tank with the overflow at the top to set the maximum height of the water in the tank when its running.
You can fit an inline tap into the pump hose to regulate the water flow as well.

As well as the pump you can have a water pickup so you done need the pump on while travellin. Ive made one out of an esky like this.

As above mentioned, bilge pump attached to scoop on transom.
Fresh water intake goes to bottom of the live bait tank, outlet from top.
Get a slightly larger outlet hose.
Lives will love you for it.
