    out of warranty no fix

    I have a lowrance 5dsi, which I purchased 17 months ago
I rang where I brought it and asked where do I go for repairs, as bottom arrow isn't working
I was told once they are out of warranty, lowrance wont look at them
pretty pisspoor I must say, cost me $699 on sale and I no longer have gps marks stored I can go
surely its not that hard to fix.....anyone out there with suggestions

Well for a start, call Lowrance and talk to them to get their advice first hand. Free call.

    1800-NAVICO

They might have suggestions that whoever you bought it from doesn't.
Note to self: Don't argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience....

Aren't there new consumer laws regarding warraties and that an article is reasonably expected to last a certain amount of time? Might be worth having a look to see if your covered as 17 months is a joke.

    Consumer guarantees

Consumer guarantees protect your rights whenever you buy goods and services. Businesses cannot deny them—they are your legal rights.
If goods or services fail to meet a consumer guarantee, the business must remedy the problem. This will usually be as a refund, repair, exchange or repeat service. Consumer guarantees apply for the reasonable life of the product, even if other forms of warranty have run out.
You should take them on, 17 Months is just not good enough on a $700 purchase. It's not like you bought a pair of thongs & had a blowout.

I have mixed opinions about Navico.
Their policies I do not like - they seem to fix nothing - everything is a throw away/replace, but that is not uncommon now.
I have found the staff to be helpful though.
As them about the Lowrance Advantage deal - you may be able to get a replacement cheap.

If it is out of warranty, open it up - or get someone with computer savvy to do it - can't hurt. (after exhausting the Navico options)

I fixed my own Link radio when warranty was void.

Ha Ha.......I think he meant the footwear thong Matt.......but I like your thinking!

Back to the sounder......17months is rubbish I also would be making a few calls on that mate,it is totally unacceptable for the unit to only last that long if looked after.

Welcome to dealing with Navico. If they use a membrane type keypad the whole unit will need to replaced - no parts available unless you can get a dead one from somewhere. If they use individual switches behind the rubber it may be replaceable. Where are you located?

Re: out of warranty no fix

yeah its all one peice boards now. membrane is pretty common for waterproofing but shitty when damaged,
    17 months isnt to funky
worth asking about navicos 5 year advantage deal.

Re: out of warranty no fix

Follow the advice to ring the Lowrance AUS agent.
I had a second Lowrance sounder fog up and die and sent it off to be repaired. Unbeknownst to me the AUS agency was just swapping over.
After hearing nothing for about a month I sent a letter off enquiring as to what was going on with the fix.
Shortly after I received a parcel with a letter telling me the agency had swapped over, plus a new sounder, plus several other goodies. (At no cost.)
(Of course the replacement model was later than the one I sent off, so the wide transducer and the deep transducer I had on the boat were no good with the new one, and I was back to one wide/shallow transducer again.)
Top marks to the new AUS agents. But I've had a gutful of Lowrance, the ones I've had are NOT water proof, and have fogged up and corroded inside. When this one dies I'm getting a brand that guarantees it is waterproof. (It has started fogging.)

Sadly it's a case of good product mostly but no customer service ,they will probably offer you a new sounder at what they consider a reduced price . I thought they had a 2 year warranty with the option of 5 or something ,what the others have said is right it must be fit to use for an extended period 17 months doesn't cut it . Maybe cut your losses and buy another brand other than navico personally I use a furuno 7 yr trouble free or there abouts...Matt

If it is only the contact material on the back of the membrane, it can be recoated
Done it many times on different electronics
