Thread: Boat Ramp Ettiquette. Important Things

Re: Boat Ramp Ettiquette. Important Things

Yachts at Mooloolaba are a bit of a bother for a solo launchers like myself. I don't get to go out as often as I'd like, but whenever i do I always come home to yachts taking up the pontoon, and it's a bastard manoeuvring around the back of the pontoon, especially when another boat is there with a bit of wind thrown in for good measure, along with the mandatory people fishing who think you can parralel park a boat.

Forgive me for this point if its already noted, but I didn't see it. Multi lane Ramps! Yes ! and people back down taking up 2 lanes. to me that is the blindest behaviour of all. A multi lane ramp can really keep things moving if all other matters noted are in proper play, but taking up two lanes needs a good yell and wake up call. Peanut!

    This.

Arrived back at Scarby today to a busy ramp, everyone took their turn and remained calm,
people were chatting while waiting for their turn, it was to good to see.

Its great when it all is smooth, and its virtuous to be patient , kind, and all, but when all the rubbish mentioned on here happens, it takes leadership and motivation to get better outcomes.
Patience only resolves a temper, but doesnt solve the problems. Decisions to positively intervene , arrange assistance, ask a selfish user to move on or change behaviour, thats what actually keeps it rolling, not just sitting waiting.

And while youre at it abolish all laws, regs and order so we can all just be patient and kind while the world grinds to a halt.

Im for kindness and patience, but it doesnt train self focused ramp users . Lets all stay calm while lunatics rule the world. No, dont find solutions, dont help probs be resolved, just stay patient. What nonsense

I rather train people to be kind, patient and tolerant of others. Take a chill pill and calm the F down.
You would rather train others to do things in a timely, orderly matter, following all the rules and regs or else feel the full force of the law and full force of others.
if everyone in the world were kind, calm and patient, would problems even exist ? Answer ... No, because it is only a problem if you make it one to you. We all know this is not going to happen in the world we live.
On the other hand, if we regulate, train, enforce laws on others there will be no problems either. But this will never happen either. It is all nonsense, neither will happen fully.
I would rather live in a world where the majority were kind, tolerant, patient ect, but we still need law and order.
a lot of angry people out there that need to calm the F down. They get held up at the ramp because someone is taking longer than what they deem necessary. Then they carry on like ya killed their first born.
So yes, calm the F down, be kind, tolerant and patient of others and lend a hand and give helpful advice when needed, and don't carry on like a loonie.

You back your trailer down the ramp beside the wharf to launch then someone pulls their boat up at the wharf right behind you.... What do you do?

I sit on the wharf & roll a smoke, I'm never in a hurry.

Re: Boat Ramp Ettiquette. Important Things

its obvious that the person launching needs to go first.....besides the fact they were there before you derigging you cant get your boat out till they move....ramp i use is really busy ....always a line up ....two lanes ....i always ask whos next ....derig ....see if anyone needs a hand because the quicker they are out of the way the quicker you get in the water....

Pulled into Noosa this arvo to find the 10m long section of sand totally taken up by jet skis & paddle boards with the owners having a bbq not 5m away. As I did my first circle, a knob on a paddle board wearing a Santa hat cuts in front of me & parks on the sand????? Juna asks nicely if they could move some gear so we could beach (she is SO much nicer than me!!) which they promptly ignore.
I do another round & this time when I pass I tell them my plate alloy hulls will crush their damn gear if not moved. This got some section & dad & son come down & shift them.
I beach & disembark & as walking away the mother says "thank you would be nice"
I did myself proud, breathed deep & went to get my trailer. In the interim, they are giving Juna grief telling her it is their private beach for the day???
The lengths that humans go to today to prove to me why I love my dogs so much, as most humans really do suck.
    Rant over,

I had the Viccy Point VMR do this to me one day and then proceed to tell me to drive forward towards the ramp and the pile of rocks to the side of it to get my boat away from the wharf with the current pushing me down onto the wharf at the time. Stay calm they say. Politely told old mate he had to be kidding, used a spring set up to step the stern out and reversed around him. Some days you just have to wonder.

Under what or who's authority give those individuals the right to claim a patch of sand as their own for the day? I had a female try that stunt of claiming a patch of soft dirt good for momentarily beaching whilst going to get your trailer on me at Somerset once. She lost!
