Honda BF8 - kill switch and neutral safety - normally closed or normally open?
Hi All,
My Honda BF8 has no spark. I'm trying to eliminate the easy things first like the kill switch and neutral safety switch. I'm trying to figure out if I can just disconnect them or if I need to bypass them and complete the circuit. Problem being I can't find anything that says if they are normally closed or normally open? Any ideas?
Cheers

Check them with a multimeter as you activate the switches - soon tell whether they are NO or NC contacts.

the kill switch is (usually) open when the little "gizmo" is in place, when removed, it simply grounds the ignition circuit, thus killing the spark, the neutral switch (nothing to do with spark) is closed when in neutral, allowing the key to supply power to the starter, don't get confused with no spark, and the neutral switch.

Thanks Lads,
Pulled out the multimeter and confirmed.
Kill switch - normally open when the lanyard clip is engaged. Closed when the lanyard clip is removed.
Neutral safety switch - normally closed. Open when not in neutral.
Noel, this is a pull start and I'm not quite seeing what you described with the neutral switch. When I remove the switch (open circuit) and pull the cord I don't get any spark. When I bypass the switch (closing the circuit) I get spark.
Fresh fuel in a rinsed out tank tomorrow and if that doesn't sort things its off to the shop I think.
Cheers
Craig
