Outboard Contacts Transom

I have a new Quintrex 450 Fishabout with a 60hp Merc 4st, and when tilting up, the motor cover contacts the transom. The dealer says it is normal, but I was wondering if there is any way to alleviate the problem? I already have scratched the outboard cover by tilting up too far. Is there a way to adjust the tilt cut out? Is the motor set too high? too low? I'm new to this, so I'm unsure if it's normal, or needs to be rectified.

Most motors have a tilt limit switch that can be adjusted so this exact problem is prevented from occurring. Once set, it will not let the motor go far enough to hit.

Should have been set by the dealer, but if not, read your owners manual, it should be in there. Plan B is to talk to the dealer again.

trim limit switch is needed, though you should have no need to tilt the motor so high?! if its for trailering get your self a motor support or H bracket

Fit a tilt limit block inside the trim ram.. ask your merc dealer.

Not many engines come with the tilt limit switch

Yes! yes! I can certainly relate to this thread having the exact same problem a few years ago.

I had a limit switch fitted to my outboard after my cowling was repaired when it contacted the stern and thus hearing a nice little 'Crack' sound.

I remember a thread where someone fitted a Mercury mercury switch (no I don't stutter) and when he parked it on a downhill slope he couldn't raise it to get his transom saver out. Pretty funny actually.

I had that similar problem when I went to collect my boat from its annual service.

I attempted to raise the outboard to make an adjustment and couldn't raise it.

The outboard would lower but not raise. The issue was because the Mercury filled switch mounted to the right hand side of the engine had moved preventing it from raising.

The Mercury inside the switch moves as you raise and lower and is what tells the system what position the outboard is in?

Once it was re-adjusted to its correct position problem solved.

I guess small things amuse small minds?[emoji6]
