    Hand Rails on Polycraft

I want to make some handrails for my small polycraft.

I was quoted $116 plus postage from Polycraft for a 700mm long SS316 rail.

I have a 316SS tube (4 times longer than the 700mm stock one) that I have had for years that I want to use for this application as it already has the bends in it that I need.

My question is how do you think these existing hand rails are mounted through the gunnel - as per attached photos?

i don't really want to remove an existing rail to see at the moment either - for fear of mucking something up...

can you think about or do anything without asking a question on ausfish? Could you just ask your husband?

Moderators - can you please remove that last reply from myusernam - pretty offensive and uncalled for.

          Thanks Bowds.

Is that large washer welded onto the rail?

I wonder how they insert that stud (and keep it inside) the SS tube?

Get the large flat disc/washer for the top section. Drill hole thru the middle of it and insert bolt thru. Tack weld top of bolt to washer.

Then weld washer to end of tube. The head of the bolt will be inside the end of the tube, so just be sure tha the bolt head and welding is neat enough so it will fit in there.

The is no other possible way to do it, when you think about it.
Note to self: Don't argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience....

Yep exactly what I was going to say. That would certainly be the easiest way to do it.

Store bought hand rails are like the one pictured, I guess you could make your own, weld a bolt to a washer, then weld (neatly) the washer to the rail, so the bolt head is inside, pretty simple really.

Over the years Splash's questions have brightened up my day - just don't read them if they get to you that much.

Hope the mods intervene cause we don't need this kind of childish literature on a boating/fishing forum.

Perhaps the mods could create a sub forum for splash
