    Waterproof marine radio

Went over to northside marine today to buy a DNA am fm radio, speakers, aerial. Can play mp3 and all the other things.

price $129. I thought cheap, but they had none unfortunately.

Has anyone bought one, and if so give me a review.

they said they would have some more in on wednesday

    cheers

That sounds like the way to go.
can u run ur phone through it for music?
Can u hook up ur phone so when music is on, the phone rings through the radio like hands free in car?
    just a thought.

what do they run out at.

    Re: Waterproof marine radio

Ra 50 is the 2ch model. Plenty for boats up to 18ft.
Plug into 2x 4" or 6" speakers and your away.

Bluetooth module plugs in as an AUX (red and white rca) connect phone and go.

Fully sealed unit but wires are exposed obviously. Flush mount is a good option if you want a bit more protection.

Ebay is your friend here on price. $236 for a ra50 and 2x 6" and bluetooth is $44 extra.

Can you plug a USB in to the ra50 and play music straight off it or is it more suited to iPod/iPhones?

    cheers

    Re: Waterproof marine radio

Well the DNA stereo turned up, so went over to northside mar to pick up.

i feeling pretty good about good price. Opened it up and damm, what a piece of shit.

Nothing enclosed. The back was open and u could see right into the head unit.

    All plastic.

So back I go and swapped it for a Fusion RA 50. Great little unit, fully sealed, and just didnt look cheap.

when i was there yest, i had to buy an aerial because the fusion did have one.

they put this one in the box $20 and said this will be fine. Well i got home and blow me down it was a DNA brand, and looked like it came out of a $2 shop.

So back again and bought a Real areial GME.

Why does a great shop like northside marine stock these cheap plastic things. Doesnt give them a good name.

I always found they had quality, thats why i shop there. But now?

Well have music tomorrow with Fusion.

    cheers

    Re: Waterproof marine radio

im confused.... not sure why it was plastic. the DNA.............OH WAIT.. did you opt for a DNA 1din headunit ? yeah they are cheap and chearful
the DNA round units have a Cast alloy back on them. and other than a few having button stick issues. they pack a serious punch for their dollars

as for their 1DIN stuff. yeah its just cheap stuff branded as what ever they want. for some people its all they want

fusion. yep. best quality for price.. i think best marine head units out there
JL, wetsounds, RF and lightning audio all prob do slightly better amps and better speakers. but for head units. havnt seen better than fusion

    Re: Waterproof marine radio

Yeah no alloy of that DNA. 100% plastic, just like the aerial.

as i said you would expect to see it in one of those $2 shops

    Re: Waterproof marine radio

As with anything, they (the retailers) try and cater for the punter who wants the cheapest possible option right through to the punter that wants the top of the range option along with a couple in between!

It probably would have been fine as they said, just not the standard you were hoping for!
