I am searching for a new gps to replace my old lowrance global map 3000. Don't want to be let down on a trip so going early.
I have a 587 but also like the idea of chirp. So a combo is what I will get.
Looking at the Simrad nss9 evo2 and the garmin xx but haven't looked at the new stuff yet. Also looked at the furuno 1870
Planning some more deep water trips so I am trying to set up for this too.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Garmin all day every day, hands down
garmin mate i fished offshore yesterday with no sounder (long story) so i could still tell the depth and very precise contour lines for a pearly and a full bag of snappa trusted it %110

Have a FCV587 also and just in the process of installing an Garmin 820xs headunit with GCV10 blackbox (which comes with structure scan tranny) and TM150 chirp tranny.
So yeah I vote Garmin.

Juggernaut what does the 820 have that you wanted?
Chirp, Down Vu & Side Vu - and the ability to display these three screen all at the same time if you also buy the GCV10. The Down Vu/Side Vu tranny plugs into the GCV10 and the Chirp TM150 tranny plugs into the back of the 820xs. The GCV10 is then networked to the 820xs.
I originally went for the 751xs but swapped it for the larger 820xs (thanks Chocolatemoose) so that the three screens were of a decent size. Note that the 820xs is not touch screen whereas the 751xs is. I decided I'd rather have a larger screen over touch screen. The 820xs has approx 40% more screen area for about the same cost as the 751xs.
If touch screen is important to you and you can wait, Garmin is launching new models next year which will have touch screen on the larger screen sizes.
yep r eading through a mountain of garmin dealer material atm "on my phone... on holiday.. see the things i do for customers!" and there is A LOT! of new stuff coming from garmin in dec/jan..... garmin does tend to do things last but in a way it does them right .

Moose, so would you rec going for the northside deal with a 150 chirp trannie and the head unit for $2k or wait until the new year?
Also, how does the pinch zoom work from your perspective?
Also with the 751xs and the 150 chirp does that just give a digital read or are you going to get sidevu, front view underview, or whatever they're called?

the pinch to zoom isnt life changing. but its STUPID smooth and fast on the garmins. so when you do want to use it. is very very very good.
i only in the last few trips started to really use it more on the sonar than i had been. getting nice and up close on the bottom to see what kind of objects im looking at
the TM150 is a chirp based medium frequency sweep transducer that will give you that 2d right to left scrolling digital sonar return . not side/down Vu that would require a GCV10 box and transducer.

I run the simrad NSS12 and love it nor can i fault it.
Furuno 587 for sounder.

that being said... you can go up to the 1020xs with a tm150 and maps for 2250... so....theres an idea

hahahah. garry mcdonald came to my 12th birthday "friend of the old mans". all i remember was he was the guy from mother and son and why was he so sad? (didnt quite understand at that age he had bad depression etc)
