Maintenance advice for newbie

Hey all,

I recently bought a camper trailer on gumtree which happened to come with a 2008 Quintrex 350 traveller and a 2002 15hp tohatsu 2stroke outboard, all in near perfect condition. although I have had a little bit to do with boats in the past (friends and family's boats) this is the first one I've owned and therefor the first I've had to maintain. I know the very basics like washing the boat and flushing the engine after each use and I've also recently learned that it's (possibly) a good idea to disconnect fuel line after flushing and let the engine run out of fuel to drain the carby. Just wondering what else I could/should be doing to maintain the reliability of the boat?

don't disconnect the fuel line and run it dry unless you are going to store the motor for a while, depending on how often its been done, maybe a new water pump kit might be in order, along with some spark plugs and a gear oil change?

Maybe throw it in for a service. New impellor and plugs cant hurt. Get some spare plugs and a spark plug remover for just in case.

G'Day Dylan. Might be a good idea to get a QLD boat licence if you live here. Doing the course & paying for the licence will be cheaper than the fine. Please disregard if you already have a licence.

yeah I was thinking a professional service couldn't hurt. What do you think a ball park figure might be to get it serviced? Just so I know I'm not getting shafted.

Peter, all good I actually got my licence about 10 years ago when I used to do a lot of wake boarding.

Did ya get a log book with the engine. I reckon $300 would go close. Also, maybe drain the old fuel from the tank unless you know how old it is. Could've been sitting there for 6 months or more.

Nah unfortunately no log books. Cool, I was hoping for around the $250-300 mark. Fuel is all good. Didn't actually come with a fuel tank so it's got a brand new tank and new fuel.
