Powers on but no ones home....

Had an old eagle magna 2 sounder in the boat for a few years now and never had a prob. this morn went for a blurt up to the pin and zilch, I had a quick look at the wiring and it was fine. Got back home pulled the unit out and hooked it up to a 12 volt transformer and still zippo. Does the unit have to have the transducer hooked up for it to work, as far as powering up and showing the menu's?

or could the unit have just died? any way to test??

Transducer doesn't need to be plugged in for unit to run.

no response at all when connected to known good power supply = not good. Likely to be deceased. They are quite a few years old now, maybe time to shout yourself a new one.
Note to self: Don't argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience....

Try hooking it straight to a 12 Volt battery, transformers put out AC.

and bypass the fuse holder to make sure connections in there haven't gone bad.

Yesterday i gave the old Eagle Magna, a loyal friend for many years , a dignified sending off to the sounder scrap heap in the sky.

It was a sad moment as i think back of the cold nights spent sitting in the seaway waiting for that first Jew and the hot summer nights slaying the jacks around the marinas....old magna was right there with me all the way.

So to replace ol mate i headed off to the local BCF to find a new best mate. $680 later i walked out with a Lowrance Elite 5HDI, Navionics gold card and head unit cover.

Now to start i new friendship that i hope will last for years to come.
