Unfortunately the way commercal fishing is you can't just quit like a normal job there's too much invested,if my boats aren't going to sea, crew or no crew it costs nearly $200 a week just leaving them at home in the driveway just in fisheries fees alone .
So bad weather, fishing alone, big seas ,fishing well beyond the boats limitations is the only way too make it close too being viable.
If I could get out of the game with half the money I put in I would gladly but it just won't happen, sorry too here about old mate apparently he was a good bloke and fisherman and will be missed by everyone even the people he didn't know who ate his regular fish up and down the coast.

I love fishing solo offshore and my choice is not to wear a lifejacket. Each to their own I reckon. I won't try and take your jacket off you and you let me enjoy my trips the way I want to. We don't need the regulation Nazis taking any more freedom from us.

I fish offshore by myself more often than not and only wear a slimline jacket when I feel it necessary.

Its not so much for use in rough weather, but more so when leadering larger fish when you can sometimes find yourself close to or on the edge.

    cheers
