G'day ausfisho's, bit of a late report but some nice fish bagged.
The wife had convinced me to do the rainbow fishing comp this year as a family due to dates being changed to school holidays and leave the boat at home. (Arm was twisted) Off we set with kids rods and beach gear and 2 offshore rigs for just in case a seat pops up.
The forecast for the first few days was pretty good and i received a few messages from the bro-inlaw saying there's a seat for friday o'nighter, the wife was happy to relax with a wine for the first 2 days so off we went. Stopping at spot after spot things were pretty quiet with minimal fish making the ice box. We anchored up on a mark for the night on a hot spot he received for zip. I had a few bommy's that i hadn't fished for quite some time so we headed further just shy of the shelf where where it was game on, got a nice mixed bag of snapper, pearlies, parrot, robinson seabream, and sweetlip , one of which held the board most of the week over 5kg.
The rest of the week saw myself and the kids and wife enjoy themselves catching bream, dart and whiting on the beach were they had received a few prizes as encouragement and smiles all round.Attachment 105296

On another trip there was a small window on sep 4th just recently for a fish off 1770. Headed offshore 3am working areas on way out to shelf with eyes glued to sounder when we ran a 3mtr rock loaded with fish just on daybreak, first drift resulted in 3 nice trout, then lined up another when stutzy (rock ape) was onto a solid fish.Up popped a nice red and high fives all round. We could see boats heading for us in the distance so we left and kept on driving untill we hit the 100mtr stuff, After a fair amount of searching for zip i came back to a rock in 90 mtrs where a couple solid pearly's were boated along with some trout.
Came back in the 60mtrs for a look in an area i havn't looked before when i found a nice show of fish, lined up first drift and bugger me dead 3 boats came out of nowhere and buzzed right beside me, so after some lip service we put the throttles down to a spot where we pulled nice trout off last trip. Drift after drift was seeing nice trout and redthroats when a charter operator was spotted in the distance so we kept drifting about 1km away when he decided to come beside us and started zig zagging on our drift line until he found what we were drifting over, then the cock drops the pick right on it.F###k i was pissed. I wouldn't have minded so much if he went straight to it but to come beside us then zig zag on our drift line...F###k me....So lip service it was but he ignored us and pretended we weren't there.
What is it this place and getting pinged every moment i stop.
Headed back in the next day in solid 20's with a healthy box.
